1991Fill dams (or embankment dams) were the first dams built by man, they are the most numerous and the most frequently chosen when it is a question of constructing a new dam. 2018The Nuozhadu high earth-rockfill dam is the highest earth-rock dam in China. Its seepage-consolidation characteristics are very representative of high earth-rock dams. A complete monitoring system was installed in the dam, and a great deal of field observation data have been obtained.

In the design process of the earth-rock dam, the slope stability problem was always focused on. The shear strength of rockfill in the earth-rock dam had strong nonlinear characteristics. The characteristic directly affected the factor of safety (FOS) of stability of dam slope and the determination of the critical slip surface.
