Feldspar alteration by disequilibrium CO2-H2O fluids in reservoir sandstones: implications for CCS [PDF]

open access: yesSolid Earth
Understanding how the minerals in reservoir rocks respond to CO2 injection is vital for the success and safety of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects. Feldspars are the most common mineral in the Earth's crust and act as primary framework grains in

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Prediction of Wall and Indoor Hygrothermal Properties of Rammed Earth Folk House in Northwest Sichuan

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
The climate crisis is one of the most important problems today. In the process of human building, the use of cement, steel, and other industrial materials in the process of building construction and recycling has brought a huge burden to the natural ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Integrating chemostratigraphy and sedimentology for sequence stratigraphy in an enigmatic Middle to Late Devonian mudstone

open access: yesSedimentologika
Sequence stratigraphy in fine-grained successions is often challenging with traditional datasets, and in such intervals, chemostratigraphy is increasingly used to facilitate interpretations. In this study, we present an example from mudstone units of the

Micromorphological description of vernacular cob process and comparison with rammed earth

open access: yesFrontiers of Architectural Research, 2020
Past builders have developed very low-embodied energy construction techniques optimizing the use of local building materials. These techniques are a source of inspiration for modern sustainable building.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

The Changing Roles of the Building Guild in Construction, Maintenance, and Conservation of Earth Buildings: A Case Study

open access: yesBuildings
A guild is an association of artisans or merchants that oversee their craft or trade within a particular territory. In many cultures, building guilds have played a major role in the realisation and maintenance of earth buildings, as well as in the ...
