Business Forms Classification Using Earth Mover's Distance

2014 11th IAPR International Workshop on Document Analysis Systems, 2014
Form Classification has not been focused on for the last decade. Unfortunately the algorithms published mainly in the 80s and 90s do not meet the requirements in our present commercial document analysis projects. There we are confronted with conditions and requirements unanticipated by that research, such as fax distortions and - even worse - form ...

Multi-dimensional earth mover's distance active contours

2011 18th IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2011
This article is the first to ever introduce multi-dimensional and arbitrary ground distances Earth Mover's Distance (EMD) active contours. We present a segmentation algorithm based on moving interfaces which maximize the EMD between the enclosed region and the background.

Earth Mover’s Distance-Based Local Discriminant Basis

2012
Local discriminant basis (LDB) is a tool to extract useful features for signal and image classification problems. Original LDB methods rely on the time–frequency energy distribution of classes or empirical probability densities, with some information theoretic measure (such as Kullback–Leibler divergence) for feature selection. Depending on the problem,

Fractal coding of color images using earth mover's distance

Proceedings of the 2nd international conference on Mobile multimedia communications - MobiMedia '06, 2006
Fractal theory gained attention by mathematicians and engineers during the last two decades as a promising technique to obtain compression of signals. Fractals also provides interesting interpolation features that can be used to zoom images or to achieve slow motions of video sequences.

Fast earth mover's distance computation for catadioptric image sequences

2016 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2016
Earth mover's distance is one of the most effective metric for comparing histograms in various image retrieval applications. The main drawback is its computational complexity which hinders its usage in various comparison tasks. We propose fast earth mover's distance computation by providing better initialization to the transportation simplex algorithm.

Relevance Feedback for the Earth Mover’s Distance

2011
Expanding on our preliminary work [1], we present a novel method to heuristically adapt the Earth Mover's Distance to relevance feedback. Moreover, we detail an optimization-based method that takes feedback from the current and past Relevance Feedback iterations into account in order to improve the degree to which the Earth Mover's Distance reflects ...
