Reduced Reference Quality Assessment for Image Retargeting by Earth Mover’s Distance
A reduced reference quality assessment algorithm for image retargeting by earth mover’s distance is proposed in this paper. In the reference image, all the feature points are extracted using scale invariant feature transform.

Refining data–data and data–model vegetation comparisons using the Earth mover's distance (EMD) [PDF]
Comparing temporal and spatial vegetation changes between reconstructions or between reconstructions and model simulations requires carefully selecting an appropriate evaluation metric.

Earth mover's distances on discrete surfaces [PDF]
We introduce a novel method for computing the earth mover's distance (EMD) between probability distributions on a discrete surface. Rather than using a large linear program with a quadratic number of variables, we apply the theory of optimal transportation and pass to a dual differential formulation with linear scaling.

Earth Mover’s Distance-Based Tool for Rapid Screening of Cervical Cancer Using Cervigrams
Cervical cancer is a major public health challenge that can be cured with early diagnosis and timely treatment. This challenge formed the rationale behind our design and development of an intelligent and robust image analysis and diagnostic tool/scale ...

Sparse recovery for Earth Mover Distance [PDF]
We initiate the study of sparse recovery problems under the Earth-Mover Distance (EMD). Specifically, we design a distribution over m × n matrices A, for m « n, such that for any x, given Ax, we can recover a k-sparse approximation to x under the EMD distance.

Non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) is widely used as a powerful matrix factorization tool in data representation. However, the traditional NMF, measured by Euclidean distance or Kullback–Leibler distance, does not take into account the internal ...

Testing Distributions of Huge Objects [PDF]
We initiate a study of a new model of property testing that is a hybrid of testing properties of distributions and testing properties of strings. Specifically, the new model refers to testing properties of distributions, but these are distributions over ...

Differentiable Earth mover’s distance for data compression at the high-luminosity LHC
The Earth mover’s distance (EMD) is a useful metric for image recognition and classification, but its usual implementations are not differentiable or too slow to be used as a loss function for training other algorithms via gradient descent. In this paper,

METRIC-PRESERVING REDUCTION OF EARTH MOVER'S DISTANCE [PDF]
Earth mover's distance (EMD for short) is a perceptually meaningful dissimilarity measure between histograms. The computation of EMD reduces to a network flow optimization problem; however, it lays a heavy computational burden when the number of locations of histograms is large.
