Sketching Earth-Mover Distance on Graph Metrics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We develop linear sketches for estimating the Earth-Mover distance between two point sets, i.e., the cost of the minimum weight matching between the points according to some metric. While Euclidean distance and Edit distance are natural measures for vectors and strings respectively, Earth-Mover distance is a well-studied measure that is natural in the ...

Clustering Algorithm Reveals Dopamine‐Motor Mismatch in Cognitively Preserved Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore the relationship between dopaminergic denervation and motor impairment in two de novo Parkinson's disease (PD) cohorts. Methods n = 249 PD patients from Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) and n = 84 from an external clinical cohort.

Assessing Clouds Using Satellite Observations Through Three Generations of Global Atmosphere Models

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, 2023
Clouds are parameterized in climate models using quantities on the model grid‐scale to approximate the cloud cover and impact on radiation. Because of the complexity of processes involved with clouds, these parameterizations are one of the key challenges

Comparative study of distance metrics for t-closeness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In our present technical world we all have to submit our personal information to various organisations driven by mutual benefits. The collected data has to be published. There was a need for exchange of the published data between different parties.

Structure–Function Decoupling of the Sensorimotor and Default Mode Networks in Black Americans With MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Multiple sclerosis (MS) exhibits racially disparate rates of disease progression. Black people with MS (B‐PwMS) experience a more severe disease course than non‐Hispanic White people with MS (NHW‐PwMS). Here we investigated structural and functional connectivity as well as structure–function decoupling in the ...

Typification for Façade Structures Based on User Perception

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, 2016
Typification is a well-established operator of map generalization. Although it is widely used in many existing research fields, less discussion has been devoted to the quality of typification.

AI4SeaIce: selecting loss functions for automated SAR sea ice concentration charting

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
For maritime navigation in the Arctic, sea ice charts are an essential tool, which still to this day is drawn manually by professional ice analysts. The total Sea Ice Concentration (SIC) is the primary descriptor of the charts and indicates the fraction ...

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.
