Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology, 2018
When tunnelling in a stratum with a high level of water (e.g., tunnelling below the river) by earth pressure balance shield, seepage due to the difference of hydraulic head between the ground and the shield’s chamber can result in the failure of tunnel ...

Active earth pressure for retaining structures in cohesive backfills with tensile strength cut-off
Computers and geotechnics, 2019The Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion, which is typically used to represent soil strength, has been found to overestimate the tensile strength of most soils.

Active earth pressure coefficients based on a 3D rotational mechanism
Computers and geotechnics, 2019The research on active earth pressure has historically been conducted either based on two-dimensional (2D) conditions or focused on vertical walls and horizontal backfills.

This chapter deals with the magnitude and distribution of lateral pressure between a soil mass and an adjoining retaining structure. Conditions of plane strain are assumed, i.e. strains in the longitudinal direction of the structure are assumed to be zero.

Dynamic earth pressures and earth pressure cell measurements
2010Failure of retaining walls is observed after many recent seismic events. Design of these walls are based on the pseudo-static force designs based on the Mononobe-Okabe earth pressure coefficient equations. However, it is clear that there are limitations attached with this approach.

Displacement-Dependent Lateral Earth Pressure Models
Journal of engineering mechanics, 2018A model for evaluating the lateral earth pressure distribution for retaining walls as a function of intermediate displacement between the full active and passive states is proposed in this ...

Active earth pressure for soils with tension cracks under steady unsaturated flow conditions
Canadian geotechnical journal (Print), 2018The calculation of active earth pressure has commonly been performed under dry or saturated conditions. However, in practice soils are usually unsaturated.

Analysis of earth pressure for shallow square tunnels in anisotropic and non-homogeneous soils
Computers and geotechnics, 2018Tunnels are becoming more popular in the transportation system, which makes it imperative to study the surrounding soil tunnel stability. However, in previous studies, researchers generally regarded soil as an isotropic and homogeneous material, which is
