A bespoke multilayer thin film configuration has been designed, which overcomes the material dependency of conventional isotope exchange Raman spectroscopy (IERS). This universal IERS methodology is efficient, non‐destructive and provides additional structural information and time resolution, which can be further extended to various isotopic elements ...

This chapter deals with the magnitude and distribution of lateral pressure between a soil mass and an adjoining retaining structure. Conditions of plane strain are assumed, i.e. strains in the longitudinal direction of the structure are assumed to be zero.

AN earth pressure cell is being developed at the Road Research Laboratory for the measurement of static or slowly changing stresses in sub-soils beneath road embankments. The measurement of earth pressures is one of the most difficult site measurements in soil mechanics, and as a result of this many workers1–8 have devised earth pressure cells for ...

Dynamic earth pressures and earth pressure cell measurements
2010Failure of retaining walls is observed after many recent seismic events. Design of these walls are based on the pseudo-static force designs based on the Mononobe-Okabe earth pressure coefficient equations. However, it is clear that there are limitations attached with this approach.
