Earth Radiation Budget data and climate research

Reviews of Geophysics, 1986
An overview is presented of the uses of top of the atmosphere radiation budget measurements in studies of climate. The net radiative energy flux at the top of the atmosphere must be balanced by local heat storage in the earth‐atmosphere column or by horizontal transport in the atmosphere and ocean. Regional variations in the components of the radiation

Earth Radiation Budget Experiment Scanner Instrument

Reviews of Geophysics, 1986
Orbital measurements of the earth's radiation budget are being made from several spacecraft launched in the latter part of 1984. Three sets of instruments have been designed to measure the incident solar flux, the earth's long‐wave emitted radiation, and the earth's reflected radiation more accurately than have been measured before.

The Earth Radiation Budget Experiment Nonscanner Instrument

Reviews of Geophysics, 1986
Two Earth Radiation Budget Experiment (ERBE) nonscanner instruments are flying with companion scanner instruments to measure the earth's energy budget from low earth orbit. A third set of instruments will be launched in March 1986. This program is the first designed to make a comprehensive set of highly accurate measurements of the earth's energy ...

The Earth Radiation Budget Experiment: Science and implementation

Reviews of Geophysics, 1986
This paper gives an overview of the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment. The experiment consists of scanning and nonscanning radiometer packages on three spacecraft. One is a satellite with a 57° inclination orbit which processes around the earth once every 2 months.

Earth radiation budgets

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 1981
This paper presents the annual and seasonal averaged earth atmosphere radiation budgets derived from the most complete set of satellite observations available in late 1979. The budgets are derived from a composite of 48 monthly mean radiation budget maps.
