Numerical Analyses of Fracturing Behavior and Strength of Specimens with Two Parallel Infilled Flaws under Uniaxial Compression

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2021
Grouting is a common method used to fill rock joints to improve the stability and integrity of rock mass in geotechnical engineering, and the filling has been observed to have an effect on crack behavior and mechanical property. To investigate this topic,

The fate of William Whewell’s four palætiological domains : a comparative study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In 1847, the British polymath William Whewell pointed out that the sciences for which he, in 1837, had coined the term “palætiological” have much in common and that they may reflect light upon each other by being treated together.

Magnetotactic bacteria and magnetofossils: ecology, evolution and environmental implications

open access: yesnpj Biofilms and Microbiomes, 2022
Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) are a group of phylogenetically diverse and morphologically varied microorganisms with a magnetoresponsive capability called magnetotaxis or microbial magnetoreception.

Unveiling Aggregation‐Induced Singlet Fission in Push–Pull Diketopyrrolopyrrole Water Dispersed Nanoaggregates and Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Aggregates of diketopyrrolopyrrole dipolar and quadrupolar systems exhibit panchromatic absorption spectra extending in the entire visible range. Upon aggregation in water and in the solid state, their fluorescence is almost completely quenched and their singlet excited state lifetime is significantly shortened.

Concurrent effects of Martian topography on the thermosphere and ionosphere at high northern latitudes

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2022
Martian topography modulated non-migrating tides play important roles in the upper atmosphere and thus in the ionosphere through their coupling, especially in their longitude variations. In this study, the neutral scale height (H n ) and ionospheric peak

Responding trends of ionospheric F2-layer to weaker geomagnetic activities

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate, 2022
Geomagnetic activities frequently occur in varying degrees. Strong geomagnetic activities, which have been widely investigated, occur occasionally; they can cause distinguishable and significant disturbances in the ionosphere.

Multiple Twinning in Nacre and Aragonite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electron backscatter diffraction map of a cluster of geologic aragonite, exhibiting single, double, and triple twins. The whole cluster is approximately 2 cm wide. Colors indicate crystal orientations, so that pixels where the a‐, b‐, and c‐axis is perpendicular to the image plane are green, red, and blue, respectively.
