The review of all available contemporary documents, i.e., technical and photographic reports, newspapers, and other archive material, of the 1908, M 7.1, Messina–Reggio Calabria earthquake has allowed to recognize and classify a large number (365) of independent environmental effects of the earthquake and the subsequent tsunami.

Earthquake Environmental Effects in Colombia during the Past 35 Years: INQUA Scale Project
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2007In this work we present the results of applying the inqua intensity scale to the analysis of the environmental effects of 12 moderate-to-large earthquakes with moment magnitudes ( M w ) in the range 5.6–8.1 that shook Colombia between 1970 and 2004. These earthquakes were selected following consideration of their depths, magnitudes, and relevance of ...

Intensity assessment from environmental effects of historical earthquakes in Southern Italy
2007To improve the ESI 2007 Scale, moderate-to-strong earthquakes, worldwide, are analyzed by various working groups, in order to compare the obtained intensity values with those assessed with conventional scales (MM, MCS, MSK, EMS, JMA). We present a contribution of Italian WG with a basic scope of reassess the historical events occurred in the same ...

Abstract The Mw 7.6 Muzaffarabad earthquake of 8 October 2005, occurred on a lateral equivalent of the main ramp of the Hymalaia frontal thrust, and is the result of the collision tectonics between the Indian and Eurasian plates. The epicentre was located near the town of Basantkot (Muzaffarabad), and the focal depth was about 13 km.

Earthquake environmental effects (EEE) and intensity assessment: the INQUA scale project
2007Earthquake Environmental Effects (EEEs) are any phenomena generated in the natural environment by a seismic event. An earthquake intensity scale (INQUA scale) based on EEEs was presented in MICHETTI et alii (2004). The use of this new scale, combined and integrated with traditional macroseismic scales, is recommended for many reasons including: i) the ...
