Statistical analysis of daily seismic event rate as a precursor to volcanic eruptions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We analyse time series of daily seismic event rate for the Kilauea, Hawaii, volcano between 1959 and 2000. Individual eruptions are not always preceded by an increase in event rate, and many increases in event rate do not lead to eruption.

Tectonophysical model of the tectonic earthquake focus [PDF]

open access: yesГеосистемы переходных зон
Based on the results of physical modeling of the processes of fault zone formation, general regularities of their structural and dynamic development were revealed.

ULF geomagnetic anomaly associated with the Sumatra-Pagai Islands earthquake swarm during 2020

open access: yesContributions to Geophysics and Geodesy, 2022
Observations of earthquake precursors via geomagnetic anomalies from ultra-low frequency (ULF) could provide an expectation for short-term earthquake prediction.

Prediction of Large Events on a Dynamical Model of a Fault

open access: yes, 1993
We present results for long term and intermediate term prediction algorithms applied to a simple mechanical model of a fault. We use long term prediction methods based, for example, on the distribution of repeat times between large events to establish a ...

Gutenberg-Richter’s law in sliding friction of gels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We report on experimental studies of spatio-temporally heterogeneous stick-slip motions in the sliding friction between a hard polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA, plexiglass) block and a soft poly-dimethyl siloxane (PDMS, silicone) gel plate.

Reverse Detection of Short-Term Earthquake Precursors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We introduce a new approach to short-term earthquake prediction based on the concept of selforganization of seismically active fault networks. That approach is named "Reverse Detection of Precursors" (RDP), since it considers precursors in reverse order ...

Ionospheric Anomalies Related to the (M = 7.3), August 27, 2012, Puerto Earthquake, (M = 6.8), August 30, 2012 Jan Mayen Island Earthquake, and (M = 7.6), August 31, 2012, Philippines Earthquake: Two-Dimensional Principal Component Analysis

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2013
Two-dimensional principal component analysis (2DPCA) and principal component analysis (PCA) are used to examine the ionospheric total electron content (TEC) data during the time period from 00:00 on August 21 to 12: 45 on August 31 (UT), which are 10 ...

Seismic hazard assessment of Kashmir and Kangra valley region, Western Himalaya, India

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk, 2015
A complete earthquake catalogue of the Western Himalaya (latitudes 30°N–36°N and longitudes 72°E–78°E) for the period of 1501–2010 has been compiled with earthquake magnitude computed in moment magnitude (Mw) scale.

Temporal variation of gravity field prior to the Ludian Ms6.5 and Kangding Ms6.3 earthquakes

open access: yesGeodesy and Geodynamics, 2015
Using mobile gravity data from the central area of Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces, the relationship between gravity variation and earthquakes was studied based on the Ludian Ms6.5 earthquake that occurred on August 3rd, 2014, and the Kangding Ms6.3 ...

The Uglovoye Podnyatiye Earthquake on December 20, 2018 (Mw = 7.3) in the Junction Zone between Kamchatka and Aleutian Oceanic Trenches

open access: yesВестник Камчатской региональной ассоциации "Учебно-научный центр". Серия: Науки о Земле, 2020
The paper presents the first results of integrated research of the strong seismic event (Uglovoye Podnyatiye earthquake (UPE) with a magnitude of Mw=7.3) that occurred on December 20, 2018 in the junction zone between the Kuril-Kamchatka and Aleutian ...
