The Levee Love Affair Decades Later, Still Stormy: Confronting the Accreditation Crisis and Charting Solutions

ABSTRACT While levees safeguard over 23 million people and trillions of dollars in property, a profound, largely unrecognized flood risk crisis is emerging. Because approximately 75% of surveyed levees remain unaccredited, millions live behind levee systems that may not meet minimum federal safety standards.
