High precision relocation of earthquakes at Iliamna Volcano, Alaska

Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 2009
Abstract In August 1996, a period of elevated seismicity commenced beneath Iliamna Volcano, Alaska. This activity lasted until early 1997, consisted of over 3000 earthquakes, and was accompanied by elevated emissions of volcanic gases. No eruption occurred and seismicity returned to background levels where it has remained since.

Relocating the 2011 Tohoku-oki earthquakes (M 6.0–9.0)

Tectonophysics, 2013
Abstract The great Tohoku-oki earthquake (Mw 9.0) on 11 March 2011 was accompanied by nearly 100 large foreshocks and aftershocks (M ≥ 6.0) in the Northeast Japan forearc. In this study we relocated 77 of these large events using three different velocity models.

Relocation of the 2001 Earthquake Sequence in Aegion, Greece

Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica, 2004
The western part of the Corinth Gulf attracts attention because of its seismically active complex fault system and considerable seismic hazard. Close to the city of Aegion, damaged by the ML 6.2 earthquake of 1995, a sequence of small earthquakes occurred from February to May 2001. The sequence, comprising 171 events of ML 1.8 to 4.7, was recorded by a

Machine learning enhanced earthquake relocation

Seismic activity provides critical insights into subsurface processes such as tectonic movements, volcanic activity, and fluid migrations, with accurate earthquake locations being essential for enhancing our understanding of these seismic behaviors. However, seismic array geometry significantly influences earthquake location accuracy. Over the past two

High-resolution Earthquake Relocation in the New Madrid Seismic Zone

Seismological Research Letters, 2010
We present high-resolution earthquake locations for the New Madrid seismic zone (NMSZ) using the double-difference location method. The NMSZ consists of four major arms of seismicity centered in the central United States and is one of the few places of concentrated earthquake activity far from a major plate boundary.

Relocation of the 2012 M s6.6 Xinjiang Xinyuan earthquake sequence

Science China Earth Sciences, 2013
At 05:07 AM on June 30, 2012 (Beijing time), an Ms6.6 earthquake (hereafter referred to as Xinyuan earthquake) occurred at the junction of Xinyuan County, Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture and Hejing County, Bayinguoleng Mongol Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The location of the main shock determined by China Earthquake Network

Relocation Pattern for Minority Villages Stricken by Wenchuan Earthquake

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
After the Wenchuan earthquake, a number of minority villages face many difficulties in relocation due to their poor geographical location, backward economic development and poor inhabited environment. In this paper, successful pattern for relocation of minority villages are researched and explored through analysis, generalization and summation with the

Relocations of Earthquakes (1899–1917) in South-Central Alaska

Pure and Applied Geophysics, 2006
I have relocated 18 earthquakes occurring in the south-central Alaska region between 1899 and 1917 using a bootstrap relocation technique. Locations of events within the Yakutat region suggest that the 1899 sequence began on 4 September with a MS = 7.9 event within the area of the Pamplona fault zone/western Transition fault zone, rupturing the western

Relocation of the M8.0 Wenchuan earthquake and its aftershock sequence

Science in China Series D: Earth Sciences, 2008
We relocated M8.0 Wenchuan earthquake and 2706 aftershocks with M⩾2.0 using double-difference algorithm and obtained relocations of 2553 events. To reduce the influence of lateral variation in crustal and upper mantle velocity structure, we used different velocity models for the east and west side of Longmenshan fault zone.

Relocation processing of selected earthquakes in the Gulf of Aqaba region

Arabian Journal of Geosciences, 2012
Earthquakes in the Gulf of Aqaba were compiled from the Jordan Seismological Observatory bulletins, Saudi Arabia (SNSN, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology), and Egypt (National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, Helwan) sources and were relocated after reexamining the P and S arrival times, testing the efficiency of stations ...
