Fundamentals of Thermal Transport and Energy Conversion in Ultra‐High Temperature Ceramics: From Microscale Mechanisms to Macroscopic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review critically examines thermal transport and radiative properties of ultra‐high temperature ceramics for hypersonic flight, advanced nuclear systems, and next‐generation energy conversion devices. It explores phonon–photon–electron interactions, microstructural engineering, thermoelectric conversion, and machine learning‐accelerated multiscale

A new consistent and high-precision earthquake catalogue for the Taupō Volcanic Zone, New Zealand

open access: yesSeismica
The Taupō Volcanic Zone is a ~300 km long, volcanically active region in the North Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. As well as hosting numerous active volcanoes, it is also one of the most seismically active parts of the country.

Metasurface‐Enabled Active‐Like Passive Radar

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A programmable space‐time‐coding metasurface embeds distinct spatiotemporal tags into ambient wireless signals, allowing passive radar to operate in an active‐like manner. By enabling code‐correlated reconstruction under interference, the approach supports robust real‐time UAV tracking in complex environments and points to intelligent, low‐power ...

Integrating Geoscience, Ethics, and Community Resilience: Lessons from the Etna 2018 Earthquake

open access: yesGeosciences
Mount Etna has a well-documented history of frequent eruptions and seismic activity, periodically causing significant damage to urban areas. On 26 December 2018, a Mw 4.9 shallow earthquake struck the volcano’s eastern flank, severely damaging ...

Microfluidic Valve‐Integrated Garment for Smooth Sequential Gradient Mechanotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
We present a soft wearable sleeve that delivers smooth, gap‐free compression using overlapping air‐filled actuators and tiny microfluidic valves. The system reduces bulk, lowers power needs, and uses a smartphone‐sized control box. It can provide sequential gradient compression, gradient pressure holding, and fast deflation, supporting more portable ...

长宁—兴文地区应力降等震源参数与区域内显著地震的时空关系

open access: yesDizhen xuebao, 2023

How cold is too cold? A theoretical analysis of the optimal trigger for index insurance for frost damage to crops

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Crop insurance is undoubtedly an extremely valuable element in protecting agricultural businesses, but in many cases standard indemnity‐based products have had very low uptake due to high transaction costs elevating premiums to unaffordable levels.
