Study on the diffusion and migration law of CO2 sequestrated in abandoned coal mine goaf

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The goaf of an abandoned coal mine, endowed with expansive fracture spaces and an abundance of residual coal, can be capable of sequestrating substantial quantities of CO2. The residual coal is the principal medium for the sequestration of CO2 in the form of adsorption and the amount of sequestration is considerable.

Strain‐based modeling and analysis for rock blasting and geomechanics applications

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This paper introduces a novel strain‐based modeling approach for blasting and geomechanical applications, using measurable variables like particle velocity, strain, and displacement. By bypassing complex constitutive relations, strain‐based models capture critical blasting trends and full‐blast design parameters with minimal calibration.

Post-earthquake modelling of transportation networks using an agent-based model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Surface transportation systems are an essential part of urban transportation infrastructure and are susceptible to damage from earthquakes. This damage, along with the lack of prior warning of earthquake events, may lead to severe and unexpected disruption of normal traffic patterns, which may seriously impair post-disaster response. Accordingly, it is

Effects of joint geometric configurations on cyclic shear behavior of intermittent joints under constant normal stiffness conditions

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The present manuscript explored the effects of joint configurations on the cyclic shear behavior of intermittent joints for the first time. The cyclic shear response, shear strength degradation, dilation characteristics evolution, frictional property, fractal dimension, and dissipative energy were further analyzed during shear cycles, which is crucial ...

The dimensional character of permeability: Dimensionless groups that govern Darcy's flow in anisotropic porous media

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, Volume 47, Issue 1, Page 129-141, January 2023., 2023
Abstract The dimensional character of permeability in anisotropic porous media, that is, its dimension or dimensional equation, is an information that allows setting the dimensionless groups that govern the solution of the flow equation in terms of hydraulic potential patterns.

Challenges, models, and algorithms for flow and transport simulations in deep reservoirs

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Deep reservoirs are considered a promising resource for future energy supply, but current reservoir simulation technologies may face certain challenges if they are directly used in specific scenarios in deep reservoir development. Models and algorithms were developed to resolve these challenges, including a better phase equilibrium model, a better ...

Probability prediction of true‐triaxial compressive strength of intact rocks based on the improved PSO‐RVM model

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
In this work, we propose an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and develop an improved PSO‐relevance vector machine (RVM) model as a substitute for traditional true‐triaxial testing. The model's high prediction accuracy was validated through comparisons with two other machine learning methods and five three‐dimensional Hoek–Brown type

Study on the failure mechanism of the shield excavation face in the sandy cobble stratum under different buried depths

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract One of the significant challenges faced in shield tunnel construction is the risk of collapse resulting from abrupt changes in soil conditions in advance of the working face, particularly within the sandy cobble stratum. This study aims to effectively manage these sudden variations and to further investigate the failure mechanisms associated ...
