Basin Resonance and Seismic Hazard in Jakarta, Indonesia

open access: yesGeosciences, 2018
We use earthquake ground motion modelling via Ground Motion Prediction Equations (GMPEs) and numerical simulation of seismic waves to consider the effects of site amplification and basin resonance in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. While spectral

Hydrogen sulfide in underground hydrogen storage sites: Implication of thermochemical sulfate reduction

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A one‐dimensional diffusion‐based mass transport model was built using PHREEQC to highlight the potential challenges posed by thermochemical sulfate reduction (TSR) in depleted gas fields. The results obtained indicated that the presence of iron minerals (pyrite and hematite) is crucial for H2S generation through TSR reactions.

Study on the diffusion and migration law of CO2 sequestrated in abandoned coal mine goaf

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The goaf of an abandoned coal mine, endowed with expansive fracture spaces and an abundance of residual coal, can be capable of sequestrating substantial quantities of CO2. The residual coal is the principal medium for the sequestration of CO2 in the form of adsorption and the amount of sequestration is considerable.

Probabilistic seismic hazard assessment in Greece – Part 3: Deaggregation [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2010
The present third part of the study, concerning the evaluation of earthquake hazard in Greece in terms of various ground motion parameters, deals with the deaggregation of the obtained results The seismic hazard maps presented for peak ground ...

Strain‐based modeling and analysis for rock blasting and geomechanics applications

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This paper introduces a novel strain‐based modeling approach for blasting and geomechanical applications, using measurable variables like particle velocity, strain, and displacement. By bypassing complex constitutive relations, strain‐based models capture critical blasting trends and full‐blast design parameters with minimal calibration.

Loss Estimation for Kırşehir Province According to Different Earthquake Scenarios

open access: yesDoğal Afetler ve Çevre Dergisi, 2019
It is not possible to prevent earthquakes and to give notice in advance by using contemporary technological opportunities. However, it is possible to take precautions in order to minimize losses in case of an earthquake.

A possible scenario for earlier occurrence of the next Nankai earthquake due to triggering by an earthquake at Hyuga-nada, off southwest Japan

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2016
Several recent large-scale earthquakes including the 2011 Tohoku earthquake (Mw 9.0) in northeastern Japan and the 2014 Iquique earthquake (Mw 8.1) in northern Chile were associated with foreshock activities (Mw > 6).

Effects of joint geometric configurations on cyclic shear behavior of intermittent joints under constant normal stiffness conditions

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The present manuscript explored the effects of joint configurations on the cyclic shear behavior of intermittent joints for the first time. The cyclic shear response, shear strength degradation, dilation characteristics evolution, frictional property, fractal dimension, and dissipative energy were further analyzed during shear cycles, which is crucial ...

Screening Analysis Stabilitas Lereng Bendungan Urugan Akibat Gempa Di Indonesia

open access: yesJurnal Teknik Hidraulik, 2018
The 2010 seismic hazard map shows the acceleration of the maximum design earthquake (MDE) scenario has increased approximately 2 fold, this case raises the question of how the dam designed by the pervious seismic load.
