Developing a model of evacuation after an earthquake in Lebanon [PDF]
This article describes the development of an agent-based model (AMEL, Agent-based Model for Earthquake evacuation in Lebanon) that aims at simulating the movement of pedestrians shortly after an earthquake. The GAMA platform was chosen to implement the model.

The mechanical characteristics of three different types of sandstones under high stress levels are studied. The degree of fragmentation of specimens increases with the applied stress level. The acoustic emission counting of different types of sandstones presents three stages: weakening, stabilizing, and surging.

Dynamic bedrock channel width during knickpoint retreat enhances undercutting of coupled hillslopes
The graphical abstract shows images of analogue flume experiments that highlight the width narrowing process during knickpoint retreat, and the cartoon figure shows the response of adjoining hillslopes. Abstract Mountain landscapes respond to transient tectonic and climate forcing through a bottom‐up response of enhanced bedrock river incision that ...

Seismic performance of concrete tunnel–sand–pile interaction by the shake table test
This research presents the square root sum of squares response of displacements and tunnel moments under the Kobe and Loma Prieta seismic excitations with a peak ground acceleration of 0.05 g for various dry relative densities of local sand in Bangladesh.

This paper uses a numerical landscape evolution model to reconstruct the topographic history of Madagascar since the Late Cretaceous. The model is optimised by balancing the volumes of onshore erosion and offshore sedimentation; the former is predicted with erosion laws and based on uplift history inferred from elevated planation surfaces.

A review of multiscale numerical modeling of rock mechanics and rock engineering
Multiscale numerical methods of rock mechanics and rock engineering are reviewed, and the review results show that more attention should be paid to the development of an advanced constitutive model in addition to numerical techniques themselves. Abstract Rock is geometrically and mechanically multiscale in nature, and the traditional phenomenological ...

EVALUATION OF TSUNAMI DANGER FOR THE WESTERN COAST OF THE BLACK SEA BY POSSIBLE CATASTROPHIC UNDERWATER EARTHQUAKES [PDF]
The present study deals with the numerical simulation of generation and propagation of tsunami waves from hypothetical earthquake sources along the western coast of the Black Sea.

Geostatistical modeling to capture seismic-shaking patterns from earthquake-induced landslides [PDF]
In this paper, we investigate earthquake-induced landslides using a geostatistical model that includes a latent spatial effect (LSE). The LSE represents the spatially structured residuals in the data, which are complementary to the information carried by the covariates.

The present study uses the Modified Mohr‐Coulomb true‐triaxial failure criterion (MMC_TT), which predicts the strength of rock better than the MGC criterion in laboratory true‐triaxial tests to overcome the limitations. Moreover, based on the data from previously published five vertical wells in the Krishna‐Godavari basin (K‐G basin), an empirical ...

Blasting effects of cross‐fault deep‐buried excavation on adjacent existing tunnel stability
Based on the theoretical analysis of cylindrical wave propagation in a deep rock mass in the fault with a filling layer, the calculation method of peak particle velocity caused by wave propagation in the existing tunnel is established. The viscoelastic characteristics of a rock mass are examined in the analysis.
