Quality assessment of daily GNSS coordinate time series from the SoftBank proprietary reference network

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space
In recent years, earth science disciplines have begun to rely heavily on geospatial data to determine crustal deformation associated with earthquakes and volcanic activity. Therefore, having adequately high-resolution data is essential. In this study, we

Adaptively Smoothed Seismicity Earthquake Forecasts for Italy

open access: yes, 2010
We present a model for estimating the probabilities of future earthquakes of magnitudes m > 4.95 in Italy. The model, a slightly modified version of the one proposed for California by Helmstetter et al. (2007) and Werner et al.

Experimental study on dynamic behavior analysis of coal and its acoustic emission response characteristics under impact failure

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Based on acoustic emission response characteristics, it can be more accurate to identify the damage evolution process of coal under the combined dynamic and static loads, reveal the moment corresponding to coal damage, and identify the characteristics of coal failure. The research results are conducive to the further use of acoustic emission monitoring

Quasi-real-time earthquake relocation and monitoring in the northeastern Noto Peninsula

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space
The seismicity rate markedly increased in the northeastern Noto Peninsula of Ishikawa Prefecture around the end of 2020, with an Mw6.2 event on 5 May, 2023, followed by many aftershocks.

Microscopic time‐dependent mechanical behavior of shale derived from nanoindentation

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study conducted grid nanoindentation creep tests to systematically analyze the microscopic creep behaviors of shale. Based on the analysis of creep strain rate sensitivity, the primary mechanism of microscopic creep in shale was found to be the extension and closure of microcracks.

Stress field in northeastern Japan and its relationship with faults of recent earthquakes

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space
Inversion tectonics, in which old normal faults act as reverse faults in current stress fields, are frequently observed in northeastern Japan (Tohoku District); however, the conditions that control these fault activities remain unclear.

Tectonic Inversion of the SCS from 3-D Magnetization Vector Clustering: Evidence for Differential Rotation and Ridge Jump

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The eastern and southwestern sub-basins of the South China Sea (SCS) display starkly contrasting magnetic lineation patterns, yet quantitative 3-D mapping of the subsurface magnetic architecture—essential for deciphering basin evolution—remains ...

Assessment of directional accuracy of GNSS-Acoustic measurement using a slackly moored buoy

open access: yesProgress in Earth and Planetary Science, 2019
We assessed the positioning accuracy of GNSS-Acoustic (GNSS-A) measurement using a slackly moored buoy. A key feature of real-time buoy-based GNSS-A measurement is that positioning must be performed via single ranging from an arbitrary observation ...

Form and load transfer aspects of foundation systems: Case‐based implementation and adaptation for buildings

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Upon conceptualization of structural behavior, foundations in terms of their form are divided into linear (1D), planar (2D), and volumetric (3D). Regarding the load transfer mechanisms, linear foundation systems are considered vector‐acting, planar foundations are divided into section and surface‐acting, and volumetric ones are recognized as block ...

Cell-automaton energy model of the earthquake focus

open access: yesГеофизический журнал, 2011
The energy one-dimensional cellular automaton model of a seismic source is offered which represents modification of model of seismicity. The outcomes of numerical calculations are adduced and the comparison of obtained relations to physical model ...
