Species‐specific trends in migratory passage time in Nigeria based on long‐term ringing data

open access: yesJournal of Avian Biology, Volume 2026, Issue 2, March 2026.
As environmental conditions change, the ability of species to adjust their phenology is important for fitness. Advantageous adjustments are often specific to location, species, and annual cycle phase, and are particularly complex in migratory birds that must account for environmental change at vast spatio‐temporal scales.

High nitrogen fixation and Braarudosphaera presence in the North Sea

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 71, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Nitrogen fixation, the microbial conversion of dinitrogen gas to ammonia, is a key nitrogen source and critical for sustaining marine productivity. We investigated the diversity and activity of nitrogen‐fixers in surface waters of the North Sea and Norwegian coast during July 2023.

Filling Streamflow Data Gaps in Indian Catchments Using Machine Learning and K‐Means Clustering

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Reliable and continuous water level and streamflow records are essential for accurate hydrological modeling and informed water resource management, yet observations often suffer from substantial data gaps. Existing data gap‐filling methods use observations from upstream or nearby stations with local climate records.

Using Natural History Collections to Determine the Relative Changes in Diversity and Distribution of Freshwater Molluscs in KwaZulu‐Natal, South Africa

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Ecology, Volume 64, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Research using natural history collections to track anthropogenic activities has recently been on the rise. Natural history collections have been utilised beyond their traditional taxonomic and systematic roles, generating data that shape present and future research.
