Entrepreneurship, entry and performance of new business compared in two growth regimes: East and West Germany [PDF]

open access: yes
The paper provides an outline of the concept of regional growth regimes and empirically illustrates the relevance of the concept. The empirical examples are entrepreneurship, entry and the performance of new businesses in East and West Germany.

E. coli Extracellular Matrix: A Tunable Composite With Hierarchical Structure

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The complex composite‐like mechanical behavior of E. coli biofilm matrix is the result of a synergic contribution of the rigid curli and swelling pEtN‐cellulose, and emerges from specific ratio and assembly conditions. The interactions between the two fibers govern biofilm hydration and characteristic wrinkling patterns, providing crucial insights for ...

Regional Income Stratification in Unified Germany Using a Gini Decomposition Approach [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper delivers new insights into the development of income inequality and regional stratification in Germany after unification using a new method for detecting social stratification by a decomposition of the GINI index which yields the obligatory ...

Toward a Unified Mechanistic Understanding of Polymer Electrolytes for Advanced Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Polymer electrolytes (PEs) are often indiscriminately grouped as “solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs)”, despite fundamental differences in their ion‐transport mechanisms. This Perspective establishes a mechanism‐based framework that distinguishes gel, quasi‐solid, and all‐solid polymer electrolytes based on their dominant ion‐transport pathways.

MNE’s Regional Location Choice - A Comparative Perspective on East Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland [PDF]

open access: yes
The focus of this article is the empirical identification of factors influencing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in transition economies on a regional level (NUTS 2). The analysis is designed as benchmark between three neighboring post-communist regions,

Efficient Osmotic Energy Conversion Enabled by Self‐Standing COF Membranes With Varied Sulfonic Acid Group Density

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐standing, strong sulfonated covalent organic framework membranes with varied ionic‐group density are developed for osmotic energy conversion. Optimized charge‐governed nanochannels enable highly selective ion transport, delivering a power density of 24.53 W m−2 under seawater/freshwater salinity gradients.

20 Years of German Unification: Evidence on Income Convergence and Heterogeneity [PDF]

open access: yes
We analyse the convergence and heterogeneity of living standards between East and West Germany since unification. Based on data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (GSOEP), we compare total individual income of permanent adult residents, including ...

On‐Water Surface Synthesis of 2D Conjugated Metal–Organic Framework Films With Controllable Layer Orientation Enabling High‐Performance Chemiresistive Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Layer orientation dictates charge transport in 2D conjugated metal–organic frameworks, yet controllable methods remain scarce. We report surfactant monolayer‐assisted on‐water synthesis of cm2‐scale Ni‐HHTP films with programmable face‐on and edge‐on orientations.

A Dual‐Bioresponsive and Programmable Microneedle Matrix as a Bioinspired Coupler for Orchestrating Diabetic Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This project developed a smart bandage‐like patch (a microneedle array) for repairing diabetic bone damage. It intelligently senses signals from infection and inflammation, then releases its medicines in a specific, timed sequence: first an antibacterial agent, then an anti‐inflammatory agent, and finally growth factors.

Biodegradable Chitosan Films as Green Resists for Gold Nanowires Fabrication Through AFM‐Based Nanolithography

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of a sustainable nanofabrication process: chitosan derived from natural sources is used as a biodegradable thin film resist, patterned via Constant Pulse‐Assisted Force Lithography (CP‐AFL) to create tunable nanogrooves. These grooves template gold nanowire formation, enabling high‐resolution nanopatterning under ambient ...
