Removal of deuterium retention by various helium discharge cleanings under strong magnetic field in EAST superconducting tokamak

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy
Fuel (deuterium) removal by various helium (He) discharge cleanings under strong magnetic field are studied in EAST superconducting tokamak, including deuterium-to-helium changeover by main plasma operation, glow discharge cleaning (GDC), and ion ...

Self‐Organized Growth of Catalyst‐Free Single Crystal WnO3n‐2 (n = 25) Nanowire Bundles on Si (111) via Selective He+ Ion Irradiation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 12, Issue 10, May 19, 2025.
A novel and efficient method is explored to synthesize 1D single‐crystal sub‐stoichiometric WnO3n‐2 (n = 25) nanowire bundles. The approach utilizes selective low‐energy He+ ion irradiation (27 eV) on Mo‐Ni doped WOx surface, achieving efficient catalyst‐free self‐organized growth of high aspect ratio nanowires at the temperature of 700 °C.

Cross-tokamak disruption prediction based on domain adaptation

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The high acquisition cost and the significant demand for disruptive discharges for data-driven disruption prediction models in future tokamaks pose an inherent contradiction in disruption prediction research.

A New Approach Toward Extreme Thermal Stability of Femtosecond Laser Induced Modifications in Glasses

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 19, Issue 3, February 5, 2025.
Femtosecond laser irradiation inside Al2O3‐SiO2 and ZrO2‐Al2O3‐SiO2 glasses can induce polarization‐controlled birefringent nanostructures, along with local precipitation of refractory nanocrystals like tetragonal ZrO2 or mullite. These structures yield a persisting positive index contrast with extraordinary thermal stability (>1600 °C), opening a ...

Experimental conditions to suppress edge localised modes by magnetic perturbations in the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak

open access: yes, 2018
Access conditions for full suppression of Edge Localised Modes (ELMs) by Magnetic Perturbations (MP) in low density high confinement mode (H-mode) plasmas are studied in the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak.

Ion‐Mediated Tearing and Kink Instabilities in the Earth's Magnetosphere: Hybrid‐Vlasov Simulations

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 130, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract We explore the three‐dimensional structure of ion‐kinetic instabilities in a thin current layer using a hybrid‐Vlasov simulation of the Earth's magnetosphere. The simulation shows the simultaneous growth of tearing and kinking instabilities, which develop in the Sun‐Earth and dawn‐dusk directions, respectively, within the magnetotail current ...

Convective and Orographic Origins of the Mesoscale Kinetic Energy Spectrum

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 51, Issue 21, 16 November 2024.
Abstract The mesoscale spectrum describes the distribution of kinetic energy in the Earth's atmosphere between length scales of 10 and 400 km. Since the first observations, the origins of this spectrum have been controversial. At synoptic scales, the spectrum follows a −3 spectral slope, consistent with two‐dimensional turbulence theory, but a ...

Comparison of the scrape‐off layer two‐point model for deuterium and helium plasmas in JET ITER‐like wall low‐confinement plasma conditions

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, Volume 64, Issue 7-8, August-September 2024.
Abstract The hydrogenic two‐point model (H‐2PM), an analytical model for the scrape‐off layer that predicts a common electron and ion temperature and density along a flux tube from a target temperature and density, is adapted to a single‐species helium (He) model, preserving the 2PM assumptions and analytical nature.

MHD Convection with Joule Heating and Internal Heat Generation in a Two‐Layer Discretely Heated Chamber Partly Filled with Porous Medium

open access: yesInternational Journal of Energy Research, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
The present research presents an innovative approach by integrating magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow with resistive heating, integrating a partly permeable layer and interior heat production to scrutinize natural convective flow within a square domain. It also examines both straight and wavy interfaces between the porous and fluid domains.
