Development of high diversity beech forest in the eastern Carpathians
Journal of Biogeography, 2023AbstractAimIn recent decades, a surge in the number of significant and uncontrolled wildfires has occurred worldwide. Global warming may amplify this trend and threaten most ecosystems worldwide. Deciduous forests are characterized by high plant diversity, and understanding their long‐term dynamics is crucial to anticipate changes in these ecosystems ...

Long-term trends in vegetation changes of managed versus unmanaged Eastern Carpathian beech forests
Forest Ecology and Management, 2010Abstract A vegetation survey of semi-permanent plots was conducted between years 1955–1962 and 2005–2009, and aimed to determine floristic changes occurring in beech forests located on a scarcely populated, dense forest area. The survey encompassed all natural beech forest types within the Polish part of the “Eastern Carpathians” International ...

Abstract Understanding the determinants of reproduction is a central question in evolutionary ecology. In pulsed‐resource environments, the reproduction and population dynamics of seed consumers are driven by pulsed production of seeds by trees or mast‐seeding.

Genetic variability of European beech provenances from south-eastern Europe
2010This paper presents research results on the variability of height growth, annual growth, flushig phenology and winter leaf retention of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) in a provenance trial "Medvednica" in Croatia. The experiment was established in spring 2007 with plants 2 and 3 years of age.
