Genetic variability of European beech provenances from south-eastern Europe
2010This paper presents research results on the variability of height growth, annual growth, flushig phenology and winter leaf retention of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) in a provenance trial "Medvednica" in Croatia. The experiment was established in spring 2007 with plants 2 and 3 years of age.

Long-term exclusion of deer may decrease some plant species through interspecific competition. I studied the effects of deer exclosures for 16 y on tall forbs and tree saplings inside and outside three exclosures of beech forest in the Tanzawa Mountains,

Winters are predicted to become wetter in large parts of the temperate zone over the next century. Additionally, warmer temperatures will shift precipitation from snow towards rain, reducing soil insulation.

Some mechanical properties of eastern beech wood
2004This study determined some mechanical properties (compression, static bending, impact bending and shear strengths) of eastern beech wood (Fagus orientalis Lipsky.) and to compared them with other beeches. The materials studied were randomly selected from pure beech stands, naturally grown in Andirm-Kahramanmaraş, and these were prepared and tested ...

Abstract Maps of Holocene changes in pollen percentages show changes in the magnitude and location of taxon abundances. They also show changes in the patterns of decreasing abundance around the areas of maximum abundance. Transport equations with source/sink, advection, and diffusion terms provide analogs for modeling these different components of ...

Estimation of biomass and carbon stock in uneven-aged beech stands in eastern Serbia
2013The problem of estimating biomass and carbon stock in beech high stands that have specific structural form and that used to be virgin forests at the beginning of the twentieth century was investigated. A set of five stands was selected. Their site class is II-IV and the altitude ranges from 450 to 1050 m. A systematic sample of circular sample plots of

Research on the responses of a beech stand to extreme drought in Eastern Bakony, Hungary
In forest management, there is an outstanding importance of water cycle of the forest because of ecological and economical viewpoints, including the water management of woody plants. Examining the reactions of trees to environmental stress – warming, extreme drought or intense rains – and the phenomena derived from this, help to ...Gergely Levente Kökény +2 more
