The climate of a Danish beech wood, Hestehaven, eastern Jutland
The wind profile in the IBP beech stand and the vertical temperature distribution in the same beech stand and in a neighbouring clearing were investigated. In addition the temperature and humidity conditions in the trunk space of the beech stand and in the clearing were compared. The precipitation components were investigated during two periods.

Seasonal dynamics of fine root length in European beech: unveiling unexpected winter peaks and summer declines. [PDF]
Fine roots play a crucial role in many ecological and biogeochemical processes in temperate forests. Generally, fine root biomass is expected to increase during the growing season, when water and nutrient demands are high, but information on seasonal ...

Long-range transport of beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) pollen to Catalonia (north-eastern Spain) [PDF]
Local and long-range transport of beech (Fagus sylvatica) pollen was analysed by using 23-year data (1983-2007) at six stations in Catalonia, Spain, and numerical simulations. Back trajectories and synoptic meteorology indicated a consistent north European provenance during beech pollen peak days.
