Large scale deformation in a locked collisional boundary: Interplay between subsidence and uplift, intraplate stress and inherited lithospheric structure in the late stage of the SE Carpathians evolution. [PDF]
The interplay between slab dynamics and intraplate stresses in postcollisional times creates large near-surface deformation, particularly in highly bent orogens with significant lateral variations in mechanical properties.

Abstract During the latest Miocene, the Mediterranean Basin was affected by extreme paleoceanographic and paleoenvironmental changes culminating with evaporite (gypsum and halite) formation during the Messinian Salinity Crisis (MSC: 5.97–5.33 Ma).

FIRST OCCURRENCE OF THE GENUS ARVERNOCEROS HEINTZ, 1970 FROM THE LATE EARLY PLEISTOCENE OF ITALY
Remains of the large-sized deer Arvernoceros from the sites of Madonna della Strada and Selvella (late Early Pleistocene, central Italy) are described. At present, these records represent the first occurrence of this genus in Italy.

Composition and provenance of Neogene sedimentary rocks of Dilj gora Mt. (south Pannonian Basin, Croatia) [PDF]
The petrographic composition and transport direction of medium and coarse-grained clastic material of Dilj gora Mt. which is located in the south Pannonian basin, show that this area experienced several changes in provenance of arriving detritus through

This study presents a detailed investigation of the Velika Vrbica loess‐palaeosol sequence, situated in the Wallachian Basin of northeastern Serbia, with the aim to reconstruct palaeoenvironmental changes spanning Marine Isotope Stages (MIS) 3 to 1. Using optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating, low field magnetic susceptibility (χlf), and mass ...

The Kuchyňa tuff is found on the Eastern margin of the Vienna Basin and was formed by felsic volcanism. The Ar/Ar single grain sanidine method was applied and resulted in an age of 15.23±0.04 Ma, which can be interpreted as the age of the eruption.

ABSTRACT Aim Using a widely distributed and frequently hybridising fish (genus Rutilus) in the Palearctic as a model system, we re‐evaluated a series of hypotheses on phylogeny, taxonomy, phylogeography and the role of hybridization in evolutionary history based on the first large‐scale analyses of nuclear SNPs together with mtDNA data obtained from ...

Palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of the Sarmatian (Middle Miocene) Central Paratethys based on palaeontological and geochernical analyses of foraminifera, ostracods, gastropods and rodents [PDF]
International audiencePaleoenvironmental changes in the upper Middle Miocene Central Parathetys were reconstructed by using qualitative and quantitative palaeontological analyses of foraminifera and ostracods, coupled with trace elemental (Mg/Ca) and ...
