Amphibians and Reptiles of United States Department of Defense Installations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) occupies approximately 10.1 million ha of land within the U.S. spanning most ecosystems contained therein. To date, no comprehensive agency-wide inventory of amphibian and reptile species has been compiled.

Using life history traits to assess climate change vulnerability in understudied species 利用生活史特征评估研究不足物种的气候变化脆弱性

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 3, Issue 4, Page 368-381, December 2024.
Lack of species information complicates understanding climate change vulnerability, but life history traits can be proxies for missing information. In the north‐central United States, useful traits for discriminating vulnerability of amphibians include range size, clutch size, diel activity patterns, and habitat breadth.

The central-marginal hypothesis in acridid Orthoptera: a critique of Colombo's (2012) article [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We discuss and criticise the contention of Colombo (2012) that the central-marginal model does not apply to three species of chromosomally polymorphic acridid grasshoppers, and that chromosomal clines in these species are a consequence of temperature ...

Insights into phylogenetic positions and distribution patterns: Complete mitogenomes of two sympatric Asian horned toads in Boulenophrys (Anura: Megophryidae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 7, July 2024.
The mitogenomes of two endemic and threatened Asian horned toads, Boulenophrys sangzhiensis and Boulenophrys tuberogranulata, were sequenced and reported for the first time. A phylogenetic reconstruction based on all available mitogenomes within Megophryidae revealed a very special phylogenetic and distributional pattern of the two sympatric species ...

Biotic interactions vary across species' ranges and are likely conserved through geological time

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 51, Issue 5, Page 894-908, May 2024.
Abstract Aim The evolutionary interactions between western spadefoot toads (genus Spea) represent a textbook example of character displacement, facilitated by dietary specialization of one Spea species on fairy shrimp (Anostraca) when all three co‐occur. The aim of this study is to understand the covariation between predator (Spea) and prey (Anostraca)

Amphibian, Reptile, and Small Mammal Associates of Ozark Pocket Gopher Habitat in Izard County, Arkansas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We conducted a study of the amphibian, reptile, and small mammal community assemblage of Ozark pocket gopher (Geomys bursarius ozarkensis) habitat in north-central Arkansas. We used 2 methods to capture individuals: hand capture and drift fences.

Piecing the barcoding puzzle of Palearctic water frogs (Pelophylax) sheds light on amphibian biogeography and global invasions

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 30, Issue 3, March 2024.
By revisiting three decades of molecular data, we retraced the evolution and mapped the diversity of Pelophylax water frogs, a famous group of Eurasian amphibians. The results highlight the Paratethys Paleo‐sea as a major driver of diversification, implement a new timetree validation approach, emphasize the rare ability of lineages to hybridize despite
