Spruce budworm outbreaks in eastern Quebec over the last 450 years
Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 2004In this study we used dendrochronology to reconstruct the history of eastern spruce budworm (Choristoneura fumiferana (Clem.)) outbreaks over the last 450 years in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of southeastern Quebec. In total, 260 tree cores were sampled from 204 beams in seven historic buildings and 12 trees in a virgin forest stand. Eight previously

Using two tests for direct density dependence and standard techniques of time series analysis, we identified density dependence in defoliation time series of the spruce budworm across its outbreak range in eastern North America over the years 1945-1988. We carried out analyses for the entire region and for grid cells of defoliation maps at five spatial

Astochastic model of spruce budworm, Choristoneura fumiferana (Clemens), phenology on balsam fir, Abies balsamea (L.) Miller, and white spruce, Picea glauca (Moench) Voss, in northern Ontario was developed based on relationships between the proportion of budworms in each stage (second instar to adult) and accumulated degree-days (DO).

NUTRITIONAL STUDIES OF EASTERN SPRUCE BUDWORM (LEPIDOPTERA: TORTRICIDAE): II. STARCHES
The Canadian Entomologist, 1975AbstractAmylopectin added to a sugar-free wheat-germ diet was equal to or better than sucrose as a carbohydrate source, and appears to be readily utilized by the eastern spruce budworm (Choristoneura fumiferana (Clem.)). Larval growth on diets containing dextrins or potato starch shows that they are partly utilized.

HOST PLANT STIMULI AFFECTING OVIPOSITION BEHAVIOR OF THE EASTERN SPRUCE BUDWORM
Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, 1974The host selection of the female spruce budworm Choristoneura fumiferana (Clem.), Tortricidae, for oviposition is influenced both by the shape and the composition of the substrate. Needle extracts were bioassayed using artificial twigs. The active compounds are soluble in organic solvents and steam distillable.
