Paleoceanography of the Tropical Eastern Pacific Ocean

Science, 1992
The East Pacific Barrier (EPB) is the most effective marine barrier to dispersal of tropical shallow-water fauna in the world today. The fossil record of corals in the eastern Pacific suggests this has been true throughout the Cenozoic. In the Cretaceous, the EPB was apparently less effective in limiting dispersal. Equatorial circulation in the Pacific

Indo-Pacific echinoids in the tropical eastern Pacific

Coral Reefs, 1996
The existing literature reports that only one species of Indo-Pacific echinoid (Echinometra oblonga), occurs in the eastern Pacific. In this study we confirm the presence of this species at Islas Revillagigedo and also report the presence of two species ofEchinothrix (a genus hitherto unknown outside the Indo-Pacific) at Isla del Coco and at Clipperton

An Eastern Pacific Tropical Plume

Monthly Weather Review, 1988
The synoptic structure of the atmosphere in the vicinity of a tropical cloud surge (or plume) is described on the basis of a single case study (the case study plume occurred during the Special Observing Period 1 of the FGGE), which was augmented with details of studies of three other systems.

Cetacean abundance in the eastern tropical Pacific

Oceans 2003. Celebrating the Past ... Teaming Toward the Future (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37492), 2003
Summary form only given. Cetacean abundance in the eastern tropical Pacific is based on large-scale line-transect surveys covering 6% of the world ocean. Cruises using 2 vessels for 4 months each were carried out in 8 years between 1986 and 2000. Thirty cetacean species were recorded, over 1/3 of the world total.

Cenozoic Sedimentation in the Eastern Tropical Pacific

Geological Society of America Bulletin, 1973
The method of paleodepth backtracking consists of assigning depths of deposition to dated sediments for which the age of underlying basement is known. Paleobathymetric facies distributions in the equatorial Pacific suggest minor fluctuations of the calcite compensation depth (CCD) in post-Eocene time, but a relatively shallow CCD during the Eocene ...
