Dissolved iron distribution in the tropical and sub tropical South Eastern Pacific [PDF]
Abstract. Dissolved iron (DFe) distributions (<0.2 μm) were determined in the upper water column (0–400 m) of the south eastern tropical and subtropical Pacific, in October–November 2004. Data were collected along a transect extending from the Marquesas Islands to the Chilean coast with most of the stations located in the south Pacific gyre.

Unrealistic increases in wind speed explain reduced eastern Pacific heat flux in reanalyses [PDF]
Tropical eastern Pacific sea surface temperature plays a pivotal role in mechanisms that determine global mean surface temperature variability. In this study, the surface flux contribution to recent cooling of the tropical eastern Pacific is investigated

Influence of El Niño on the shallow circulation in the tropical Atlantic Ocean [PDF]
This study investigates the influence of El Niño on the upper-ocean circulation in the tropical Atlantic Ocean (via changes in the Atlantic trade winds) by analyzing observed sea surface temperature (SST) together with an ocean general circulation model ...

Mechanisms of P* Reduction in the Eastern Tropical South Pacific [PDF]
Water masses influenced by oxygen minimum zones (OMZ) feature low inorganic nitrogen (N) to phosphorus (P) ratios. The surplus of P over N is thought to favor non-Redfield primary production by bloom-forming phytoplankton species. Additionally, excess phosphate (P*) is thought to provide a niche for nitrogen fixing organisms.

Pacific Ocean Forcing and Atmospheric Variability are the Dominant Causes of Spatially Widespread Droughts in the Contiguous United States [PDF]
The contributions of oceanic and atmospheric variability to spatially widespread summer droughts in the contiguous United States (hereafter, pan-CONUS droughts) are investigated using 16-member ensembles of the Community Climate Model version 3 (CCM3 ...

Subsurface tropical Pacific nitrogen isotopic composition of nitrate: Biogeochemical signals and their transport [PDF]
We report measurements of the nitrogen isotopic composition of nitrate (the δ15N of NO3−) across the equatorial Pacific, for zonal transects from 165°E to 95°W and meridional transects across 95° and 110°W.
