Sr Isotopes as Mixing and Lithological Tracers; The Ebro River Basin

open access: yesProcedia Earth and Planetary Science, 2017
The Ebro River, located in North-Eastern Spain, rises near the Atlantic coast in the Cantabrian Mountains and flows into the western Mediterranean Sea through several large cities and agricultural, mining and industrial areas. The river is one of the largest contributors of freshwater in the Mediterranean Sea and ends in the Ebro delta.

Soil Management Effects on Grapevine Water Uptake Depth in a Mediterranean Vineyard

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Soil Science, Volume 77, Issue 2, March–April 2026.
Stable isotope evidence of vine water uptake depth under spontaneous cover crop and tillage. ABSTRACT In Mediterranean vineyards, soils are often managed with tillage or herbicides to limit weed growth and competition for resources. However, with rising concerns about water scarcity and climate change, cover crops are being reconsidered as sustainable ...

Observed Changes in Maximum and Minimum Temperatures and Daily Temperature Range in the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands Between 1952 and 2022

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 46, Issue 2, February 2026.
Strong warming trends have been identified across the Iberian Peninsula, particularly since the 1980s and across all seasons. Increases in minimum temperature dominate at low‐altitude urban stations (below 250 m), while the most pronounced maximum temperature trends occur at elevations above 1500 m, especially in summer.

Numerical simulation of runoff from extreme rainfall events in a mountain water catchment [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2002
A numerical model for unsteady shallow water flow over initially dry areas is applied to a case study in a small drainage area at the Spanish Ebro River basin.

Regional geothermal aquifer architecture of the fluvial Lower Cretaceous Nieuwerkerk Formation – a palynological analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The primary challenge for efficient geothermal doublet design and deployment is the adequate prediction of the size, shape, lateral extent and thickness (or aquifer architecture) of aquifers.

Effects of Lateral Hydrological Connectivity on Aquatic Invertebrate Assemblages in Floodplains, Oxbow Lakes and the Main River Channel of the Savannah River, Southeastern USA

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 71, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Within river corridors, hydrological connectivity drives the local abiotic and biotic processes, shapes ecosystem functioning and promotes biodiversity. However, hydrological cycling is changing due to climate change, and drought is intensifying and becoming more frequent in many regions of the world, making it critical to understand the ...

The marinada fall wind in the eastern Ebro sub-basin: physical mechanisms and role of the sea, orography and irrigation [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics
During the warm months of the year in Catalonia, the marine air overcomes the coastal mountain range and reaches the eastern Ebro sub-basin. This phenomenon is called marinada and has recently been thoroughly characterized for the first time by Jiménez ...

Eocene-Oligocene magnetostratigraphy from the central part of the SE margin of the Ebro Basin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Previous magnetostratigraphic studies focused in the Eocene successions of the eastern Ebro Basin have provided some absolute age for the basin infill. These results were based on some biostratigraphic constraints wich have been recently challenged.

Quantifying the post-tectonic topographic evolution of closed basins: The Ebro basin (northeast Iberia)

open access: yesGeology, 2015
Closed (endorheic) sedimentary basins are key recorders of the climatic, erosional, and tectonic history of their surrounding topography, playing an active role in its evolution by changing the local geomorphological base level. When these basins become exorheic, the accelerated incision along the new fluvial network can excavate excellent ...

Anatomy of Rift‐Segmenting Transfer Zones: New Insights From the 3D Integrated Interpretation of the Southeastern Sector of the Basque‐Cantabrian Basin and the Pamplona Fault (Pyrenees, N Spain)

open access: yesBasin Research, Volume 38, Issue 1, January–February 2026.
An updated view of the southern part of the Cantabrian‐Pyrenean junction through a 3D geological model shows the first conclusive evidence for the ~65 km‐wide diffuse Pamplona transfer zone linking the Basque‐Cantabrian and Mauleon segments of the Pyrenean rift. This transfer zone also affected the style of deformation and configuration of the Pyrenean
