Soft ECF-bleaching of softwood pulp

open access: yes, 2011
The aim of bleaching is to increase the brightness of the pulp by reducing the amount of the residual lignin and to provide the pulp with specific physicochemical properties.

Numerical investigation of electro-conjugate fluid micro-pump under the effects of downstream angle and the negative electrode width

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics
This paper describes a numerical study of the electro-hydrodynamic behaviors of the fluid flow in an electro-conjugate fluid (ECF) micro-pump under the effects of the collector electrode width (Lc) and its downstream angle (α2).

MCT1‐mediated bidirectional propionate transport across human placental syncytiotrophoblast layer: insights from a trophoblast stem cell‐derived barrier model

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Propionate in the fetal circulation is thought to originate from fermentation of dietary fibre by the maternal gut microbiota. However, the mechanism of transplacental transport has remained unclear. Here, we measured propionate permeability using a placental barrier model generated by differentiating human placental trophoblast ...

A Framework for Quantifying Diverse Multi‐Hazard Interactions to Enhance Climate Resilience

open access: yesClimate Resilience and Sustainability, Volume 5, Issue 2, December 2026.
A generalized framework for quantifying multi‐hazard interactions is developed and applied across four European regions. The framework captures regional hazard dependencies and joint probabilities, with methods tailored to different temporal scales. Results indicate increasing multi‐hazard event frequency under future climate scenarios, highlighting ...

ECF processes and asynchronous circuit design

open access: yes, 1999
Specifying hardware can present major challenges, especially when one is faced with a system that involves a large degree of concurrency. We propose a simple formal framework for representing concurrent systems.

Understanding teacher recruitment and retention across the UK: A ‘home international’ comparison

open access: yesReview of Education, Volume 14, Issue 3, December 2026.
Abstract A persistent and pressing issue for education policymakers is the need to ensure a reliable supply of high‐quality staff within schools. Teacher shortages are a well‐documented phenomenon in England, with clear indications of some issues in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland too.

Hypocortisolaemia with gastrointestinal haemorrhage in a young cat

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 4, November 2026.
Abstract An 8‐month‐old, female, spayed domestic shorthair presented with a 1‐week history of lethargy and anorexia. On admission, the cat had severe hypoglycaemia, and hypovolaemic and distributive shock were suspected. Mucosal defects identified by ultrasonography were suggestive of gastrointestinal ulceration.

The impacts of income inequality, forest area, and technology innovations on ecological footprint in Indonesia: ARDL and ML approach

open access: yesDiscover Sustainability
Reducing humans’ ecological footprint (ECF) is critical for guaranteeing a sustainable future and sustaining the planet's health for future generations. Consequently, sustainability policies and development aim to minimize ECF and guarantee a sustainable
