Miniaturized optical fiber Bragg grating sensor interrogator based on echelle diffractive gratings

Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, 2007
AbstractAn Optical fiber Bragg grating sensor interrogation device based on monolithically integrated echelle diffractive grating and detector arrays on an InP chip is designed and prototyped. The device weighs less than 60 g and measures smaller than 45 mm × 30 mm × 15 mm, and it is specifically designed for potential integration into aerospace ...

On-Chip Spectrometer using Cascaded Echelle Gratings and Arrayed Waveguide Gratings

2019 IEEE Research and Applications of Photonics in Defense Conference (RAPID), 2019
A novel, compact, on-chip spectrometer based on cascaded EG, multiple AWGs as well as PIC foundry compatible components was designed and analyzed. The proposed device operates in the spectral range of 1050 nm −1250 nm, 0.5 nm resolution, −30dB cross talk and 400 output channels.

High Dispersion Stellar Spectroscopy with an Echelle Grating

Applied Optics, 1970
The design and operation of a new 3.7-m echelle spectrograph are described. Both photographic (with image intensifier tube) and photoelectric results are presented, together with a critique of the general performance of the instrument.

A Diffraction Model for Echelle Gratings

Journal of Modern Optics, 1991
Abstract The diffraction model of echelle gratings is quite special because of its surface structure. Considering the shadow effect by neighbouring grooves, from geometrical deductions, a new diffraction model for echelles has been constructed and used successfully to analyse the values of blaze angle with experimental data.

Planar waveguide echelle gratings in silica-on-silicon

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2004
Silica planar waveguide echelle grating demultiplexers with 48 channels and 256 channels are described and demonstrated. Polarization effects due to stress birefringence and polarization-dependent grating efficiency have been eliminated using a modified polarization compensator and grating design.

Integrable Echelle Grating (De)multiplexer for 100GBASE-LR4

Asia Communications and Photonics Conference, 2017
We experimentally demonstrate an echelle grating (de)multiplexer based on InGaAlAs/InP material using quantum-well intermixing technique. The device is suitable for monolithic photonic integration and can be applied to the 100GBASE-LR4 Ethernet system.

Echelle Diffractive Grating Based Wavelength Interrogator for Potential Aerospace Applications

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2013
Operational load monitoring and impact damage detection are the two critical aspects of aerospace structural health monitoring (SHM). Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors have demonstrated great potential in both. But the currently available interrogation systems can only handle one of the two types of SHM capabilities offered by FBG sensors. In addition,

Multilayer Coated Echelle Gratings for Soft X-rays

Physics of X-Ray Multilayer Structures, 1994
Recently there have been many experimental and theoretical studies of diffraction gratings coated with short-period multilayers to enhance their reflectivity in the extreme ultraviolet and x-ray regions. Much of this work has been focussed on lamellar gratings, but there is also considerable interest in multilayer coated blazed gratings.
