Echinococcosis is a near-cosmopolitan zoonosis caused by adult or larval stages of cestodes belonging to the genus Echinococcus (family Taeniidae). The two major species of medical and public health importance are Echinococcus granulosus and Echinococcus multilocularis, which cause cystic echinococcosis and alveolar echinococcosis, respectively.

A case of renal echinococcosis, most uncommon in Hungary, is reported. The problems of diagnosis and therapy are discussed. It is emphasized that difficulties of diagnosis, particularly differential diagnosis, arise mainly in countries where the incidence of echinococcosis is low.

Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2002
Three patients with arterial echinococcosis presented with chronic or acute arterial occlusion. One case diagnosed as Leriche's syndrome was found at surgery to have aortic occlusion caused by hydatid cysts; arterial reconstruction was performed by aortoiliac interposition of a woven Dacron vascular graft.

American Heart Journal, 1953
Abstract In reviewing the literature 169 cases of echinococcosis of the heart were mentioned. In a series of 257 patients with hydatid disease admitted to the American University Hospital of Beirut, Lebanon, the liver was involved in 51.7 per cent, the lung in 29.9 per cent, the kidneys in 5.8 per cent, the spleen in 4.67 per cent, the soft tissues ...

Hepatic Alveolar Echinococcosis
Seminars in liver disease (Print), 2021Hepatic alveolar echinococcosis (HAE) is a rare but severe zoonosis caused by the pseudotumoral intrahepatic development of the larval stage of the tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis.

The patients with hepatic alveolar echinococcosis is poorly detected due to invasive and slow growth. Thus, early diagnosis of hepatic alveolar echinococcosis is so important for patients. Circular RNAs are crucial types of the non-coding RNA.

Clinical Reviews in Allergy & Immunology, 2004
The larval stages of Echinococcus granulosus and E. multilocularis are involved in parasitic diseases in humans: cystic echinococcosis (CE) ("hydatid disease") and alveolar echinococcosis (AE), respectively. Both diseases and parasites have tight links with allergy because of the immunological characteristics that contribute to maintain the larvae in ...

Epidemiology of echinococcosis
Langenbeck's Archives of Surgery, 2003Various species and infraspecific forms of the cestode genus Echinococcus are causative agents of human echinococcosis. Pathology, epidemiology and geographical occurrence vary widely between the different Echinococcus taxa. As a general rule, those forms of echinococcosis that are transmitted mainly by wild animals are rather rare, due to limited ...

Phrenomediastinal Echinococcosis
Chest, 1990A patient with the rare presentation of posterior mediastinal echinococcosis is reported. Magnetic resonance imaging (MR) demonstrated the extension of a primary retroperitoneal cyst into the posterior mediastinum which was subsequently confirmed surgically to be of echinococcal origin. Such a case of phrenomediastinal echinococcosis has been described
