Use and Abuse of the Echocardiogram
Pediatric Clinics of North America, 1984Echocardiography is a valuable noninvasive technology that has profoundly influenced the standards of medical and surgical care of infants and children with cardiac disease. The correct and efficient utilization of this technology requires a knowledge of the structures that can be visualized on the echocardiogram, the limitations of the technique, and ...

The echocardiogram in left atrial myxoma
The American Journal of Medicine, 1973Abstract A case of left atrial myxoma is described in which the echocardiogram provided the clue to the diagnosis. The mechanisms involved in producing a positive result are discussed. The value of the echocardiogram appears to depend upon echoes from the tumor during diastole which can be detected immediately posterior to the anterior cusp of the ...

The Use of Echocardiograms in Preparticipation Examinations
Current Sports Medicine Reports, 2017Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is the leading cause of death during exercise in young athletes. Preparticipation physical examinations were developed to maintain the health and safety of athletes, including the prompt identification of those at risk for SCD. The use of medical history and physical examinations, electrocardiography, and echocardiography, or

The Effect of Respiratory Motion on the Echocardiogram
Chest, 1976The effects of respiratory movements on the ultrasonic echoes of the cardiac structures were recorded and analyzed in 50 consecutive patients. Deep inspiration in cooperative patients resulted in a considerable increase of dense anterior echoes, with blotting out of any distal or posterior echoes in 12 of 44 patients (group A).

The use of a microcomputer in the evaluation of echocardiograms
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Diagnosis, 1980AbstractA low‐cost microcomputer system is used to calculate cardiac parameters from echocardiographic (Echo) measurements and produce a chartable report. The system is simple, uses Basic language, and provides for data storage.

Echocardiogram in calcified mitral anulus
The American Journal of Cardiology, 1975Abstract Calcification of the anulus fibrosus of the mitral valve presents a characteristic pattern on the echocardiogram. This pattern may be mistaken for that of a posteriorly situated pericardial effusion. Two illustrative cases are presented.

The echocardiogram in papillary muscle dysfunction
American Heart Journal, 1972Abstract Serial echocardiograms were recorded in 25 patients with acute myocardial infarction. Significant variations in the diastolic slope as well as in the amplitude of the mitral valve echocardiogram were found in six patients (24 per cent). An apical systolic murmur was audible in each of the six patients.
