Validation of Aortic Blood Flow Simulations During Extracorporeal Circulation Using Phase Contrast Magnetic Resonance Imaging

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
This is the first study assessing in vivo blood flow profiles during extracorporeal circulation (ECC) scenarios. Magnetic resonance imaging data served for the calibration of computational fluid dynamics algorithms, enabling accurate replication of the hemodynamic conditions.

Percutaneous Intervention in External Outflow Graft Obstruction of Magnetically Levitated Left Ventricular Assist Device: Long‐Term Follow‐Up and Quality of Life

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
eOGO is an uncommon adverse event in patients on long‐term LVAD support. Thirty‐one eOGO patients were identified in a single‐centre HM3 implantation program. Twenty patients underwent percutaneous stenting. This treatment resulted in immediate LVAD flow improvement and yielded satisfactory quality‐of‐life results, with 62.5% patients assigned a fair ...

The first case of Reel Syndrome in a dog after pacemaker implantation: A case report

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Reel Syndrome is a rare complication of permanent pacemaker implantation, characterised by the rotation of the device around its transverse axis, which causes the lead to coil around the generator and displacement, leading to pacing dysfunction. This report presents the first documented case of Reel Syndrome in a dog.

Methaemoglobinaemia: From pathophysiology to contemporary clinical management

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
Summary Methaemoglobin (MetHb) is an oxidised form of haemoglobin (Hb) unable to bind oxygen. Raised levels of MetHb reduce the blood's oxygen‐carrying capacity, causing potentially severe hypoxaemia and possible death. The condition arises from three main pathologies: mutations in globin genes causing Haemoglobin‐M, inherited deficiency of the enzyme ...
