Isolation and characterization of an echovirus, intratypic variant of echovirus 33

Archives of Virology, 1977
An echovirus, isolated from children, residents of Cairo, Egypt, U.A.R., was characterized and was shown to be an intratypic variant strain of echovirus type 33.

Complete sequence of echovirus 23 and its relationship to echovirus 22 and other human enteroviruses

Virus Research, 1998
To define the relationship between echovirus 23 (E23) and other human enteroviruses, we have determined the complete nucleotide sequence of a strain of E23 isolated from a child with high fever in Connecticut in 1986 and compared the nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences with those of other enteroviruses representing each of the major enterovirus

Echovirus keratoconjunctivitis

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1998
To investigate an outbreak of echovirus-related keratoconjunctivitis. We undertook a retrospective study of recent cases of echovirus infection with recall and further evaluation of conjunctivitis patients. All patients from whom an echovirus was isolated in Liverpool during 1995 were included. The natural course of ocular echovirus disease was studied,

The genome of echovirus 11

Virus Research, 1995
Echoviruses are the largest enterovirus subgroup consisting of 32 serotypes. They are common human pathogens causing, for example, meningitis, encephalitis and exanthema, but in spite of their clinical importance, relatively little is known about their biology.

Echovirus 7 associated encephalomyelitis

Journal of Clinical Virology, 2002
Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is endemic in Malaysia. In 1997, a large outbreak of enterovirus 71 (EV-71) associated HFMD resulted in 41 deaths due to severe left ventricular dysfunction and central nervous system infection with extensive damage to the medulla and pons.

Characterization of echovirus 22 variants

Archives of Virology, 1996
Ten presumptive enterovirus isolates which could not be neutralized by type specific antisera to any prototype enterovirus were related to echovirus 22 using molecular, biologic and serologic methods. Viral protein fingerprinting and PCR first suggested that these strains were variants of echovirus 22.
