Modelo del efecto de la temperatura sobre los patrones de eclosión y asentamiento de organismos meroplanctónicos: el ejemplo del pulpo

open access: yes, 2006
The duration of embryonic development and the planktonic stage of meroplanktonic species is highly temperature dependent and thus the seasonal temperature oscillations of temperate regions greatly affect the patterns of hatching and benthic ...

Iflaviruses in arthropods: when small is mighty

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Many arthropod species harbor iflaviruses, which often cause covert (asymptomatic) infections, but may still affect host fitness. We review the impact of iflaviruses on arthropod fitness, immunity, behaviour as well as the iflavirus’ host range, transmission, tissue tropism and the interactions with other microorganisms within arthropods.

Adaptation of the invasive pest Drosophila suzukii to a specialized nutritional niche

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Unlike most Drosophila larvae that feed on spoiled food, Drosophila suzukii larvae thrive on ripening fruits and consequently face a low‐protein, high‐carbohydrate nutritional challenge. Comparisons of growth among D. suzukii, D. biarmipes, and D. melanogaster larvae across diets with varying protein‐to‐carbohydrate ratios demonstrate that D.

Males are worse mothers: Comparing care patterns in a facultatively caring beetle

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Why should biparental care exist if offspring fare just as well when only one parent is present? In the facultatively dependent burying beetle, Nicrophorus vespilloides, manipulating environmental quality reveals that biparental care benefits offspring in form of lower personal immune requirement and parents in term of weight gain.

Attraction of Phoracantha mastersi (Coloeptera: Cerambycidae) to copulation‐associated olfactory stimuli

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Damage caused by Phoracantha mastersi larvae are the primary cause of forest decline in Australia's subalpine forests. Behaviour of male adult beetles was tested in response to a suite of commercial semiochemicals and conspecifics engaged in active copulation within a Y‐maze.

Drosophila Zic family member odd-paired is needed for adult post-ecdysis maturation [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Biology, 2019
Specific neuropeptides regulate in arthropods the shedding of the old cuticle (ecdysis) followed by maturation of the new cuticle. In Drosophila melanogaster, the last ecdysis occurs at eclosion from the pupal case, with a post-eclosion behavioural ...
