Electroantennographic Responses of Wild and Laboratory-Reared Females of Xyleborus affinis Eichhoff and Xyleborus ferrugineus (Fabricius) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) to Ethanol and Bark Volatiles of Three Host-Plant Species

open access: yesInsects, 2022
Chemical ecology studies on ambrosia beetles are typically conducted with either wild or laboratory-reared specimens. Unlike laboratory-reared insects, important aspects that potentially influence behavioral responses, such as age, physiological state ...

RAPID: Real‐time animal pattern re‐identification on edge devices, an open‐source tool for field deployment

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Automatic re‐identification of animals has significant potential to address pressing ecological and conservation challenges through improved population monitoring, individual health assessment and detailed behavioural analyses. Although numerous computer‐vision‐based solutions have been proposed and many achieve high accuracy, most remain ...

Hidden Losses: Assessing the Risk of Coextinction Among Ectoparasitic Flies and Their Bat Host Species in Brazil

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
The potential impact of bat species extinction on the number of their ectoparasitic fly species, based on interaction data for Brazil. As bat host species are removed over time, more connected species (green) would experience steeper declines and lead to greater ectoparasite losses when compared to a random extinction model (gray).

Interpretación de nomogramas de análisis de vectores para diagnóstico nutrimental de especies forestales [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The interpretation of the nomograms from the vector analysis technique for nutrient status diagnosis of preformed growth forest tree species frequently is a difficult task that may lead in some cases to vague or even unsatisfactory conclusions.

Yeast Species, Strains, and Growth Media Mediate Attraction of Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae)

open access: yesInsects, 2019
Specific ecological interactions between insects and microbes have potential in the development of targeted pest monitoring or control techniques for the spotted wing drosophilid, Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura), an exotic invasive pest of soft fruit.

Longevity and Growth of the Crabs Callinectes sapidus and Callinectes rathbunae (Decapoda: Portunidae) in Paraíso Tabasco Mexico

open access: yesActa Zoologica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Individual growth models are important in fisheries of natural populations and can be incorporated in production models to estimate their maximum sustainable yield. Blue crab species, Callinectes sapidus and Callinectes rathbunae were obtained in the Mecoacán lagoon, Paraíso, Tabasco Mexico by “nasa” and “yahual” nets. Biometric values such as

Spiders in the mosaic: How habitat heterogeneity and structure drive local spider diversity in a Mediterranean forest

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
We assessed alpha‐ and beta‐diversity patterns of spiders across different forests and across vegetation layers (ground, shrub, low canopy) at local spatial scales across various Mediterranean forest types. Across forests, alpha‐diversity increased with habitat heterogeneity, which also drove beta‐diversity patterns across plots .
