Phenotypic integration limits the variation in plant phenotypic plasticity among traits: A meta‐analysis

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Phenotypic plasticity, a key mechanism by which plants respond to environmental change, tends to be lower under stressful conditions. Phenotypic integration refers to the degree of trait correlation and is thought to limit phenotypic plasticity and to be higher under ...

Cold fronts and reservoir limnology: an integrated approach towards the ecological dynamics of freshwater ecosystems

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
In this paper the authors discuss the effects of cold fronts on the dynamics of freshwater ecosystems of southeast South America. Cold fronts originating from the Antarctic show a monthly frequency that promotes turbulence and vertical mixing in ...

Environmental and human factors shape the trophic ecology of a widespread marine predator

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Our study reveals how environmental factors and fishing pressure influence swordfish diet, highlighting trophic shifts under future climate scenarios. We provide a novel framework to strengthen our ability to plan for and manage the redistribution of species under global change ensuring that the energetic needs of predators are met.

Knowledge from non‐English‐language studies broadens contributions to conservation policy and helps to tackle bias in biodiversity data

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, EarlyView.
Collecting data from local sources markedly further strengthens global biodiversity databases by adding species not previously included in international datasets. Furthermore, the addition of these data helps to understand spatial and temporal biases that potentially influence abundance trends at both national and global levels.

Monitoring population extinction risk with community science data

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, EarlyView.
Our modelling framework provides a robust, computationally efficient and easy‐to‐apply tool for monitoring local persistence probability that can support global conservation efforts. This will complement the monitoring of species population viability in places where standardized monitoring is still lacking, but community science observations are common.
