ECOLOGIA COMPORTAMENTAL EVOLUTIVA APLICADA A PEIXES DE RIACHO

open access: yesOecologia Australis, 2021
Direct field observation constitutes an important source of information on life history and behavior of stream fish. Unfortunately, information gathered from direct field observations are often limited and thus may fail to provide robust testing for the causation of biological phenomena.

A Review on Fish Sensory Systems and Amazon Water Types With Implications to Biodiversity

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2021
The Amazon has the highest richness of freshwater organisms in the world, which has led to a multitude of hypotheses on the mechanisms that generated this biodiversity.

Drivers of habitat availability for terrestrial mammals: Unravelling the role of livestock, land conversion and intrinsic traits in the past 50 years

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 29, Issue 24, Page 6900-6911, December 2023., 2023
This study investigates the impact of habitat degradation on terrestrial mammal species. By comparing historic and current distribution maps for 475 species, we found that 59% of them have less available habitat in their lost ranges, suggesting habitat loss contributed to range declines.

Circadian rhythms of hosts and their gut microbiomes: Implications for animal physiology and ecology

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 37, Issue 3, Page 476-487, March 2023., 2023
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Daily light–dark cycles shape the circadian physiology and behaviour of nearly all organisms, with variation in circadian phenotypes having cascading effects on individual fitness, species interactions and species co‐evolution.

Reproductive biology and flower-visitor interactions of two bromeliad species from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Ecology and Evolution, 2022
Background and aims – The Bromeliaceae family has great importance in the maintenance of neotropical communities. In the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, bromeliads are among the major groups responsible for maintaining the local flora and fauna and ...

Roadkill patterns in Latin American birds and mammals

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 31, Issue 9, Page 1756-1783, September 2022., 2022
Abstract Aim Roads are a major threat for wildlife, degrading habitat and causing mortality via wildlife–vehicle collisions. In Latin America, the conjunction of high biodiversity and a rapidly expanding road network is reason for concern. We introduce an approach that combines species traits and habitat preferences to describe vulnerability and map ...

Drivers and facilitators of hunting behaviour in domestic cats and options for management

open access: yesMammal Review, Volume 51, Issue 3, Page 307-322, July 2021., 2021
Abstract Domestic cats Felis catus are distinct from other domesticated animals because their phenotype and genotype are relatively unchanged. While they live with people as pets or pest controllers, they retain capacity for survival independent of human support and readily persist as feral animals.

Efeito da contaminação por inseticida tiametoxam sobre o comportamento da mosca de interesse forense Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius)

open access: yesEntomology Beginners, 2021
Muitos fatores podem interferir na estimativa do Intervalo Pós-Morte (IPM) que é o tempo entre a morte e o achado de corpo, dentre eles substâncias que alteram os padrões de desenvolvimento dos insetos colonizadores de carcaças.

Do Odontomachus brunneus nestmates request for help and are taken care of when caught?

open access: yesSociobiology, 2021
In social insects, situations can arise that threaten an individual or an entire colony. When the call for help goes out, different behavioral responses are elicited by signals emitted from nestmates.

Foraging behavior of fire ant Solenopsis saevissima (Smith) (Hymenoptera, Formicidae) in Felis catus Linnaeus (Carnivora, Felidae) carcass

open access: yesSociobiology, 2015
Solenopsis saevissima fire ants were found foraging in a Felis catus carcass over tissues an secretions present in holes and mucosa. The ants built a dirt-made physical structure around the carcass, which prevented necrophagous flies from laying eggs in ...
