Adaptive capacity in ecosystems

open access: yes, 2019
Understanding the capacity of ecosystems to adapt and to cope (i.e. adaptive capacity) with change is crucial to their management. However, definitions of adaptive capacity are often unclear and confusing, making application of this concept difficult. In

Rational Tuning of Hygroscopic Oscillation of Stacked Nanoflake Assemblies for Continuous Ambient Energy Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Stacked nanoflake assembly (SNA) membranes can oscillate autonomously, offering opportunities for soft actuation and energy harvesting. This work uncovers the physical mechanism behind the sustained oscillation of SNA membranes in gradient humidity and identifies three governing dimensionless parameters, enabling rational design for optimizing SNA ...

Effects of slope shape on soil erosion and deposition patterns based on SfM-UAV photogrammetry

open access: yesGeoderma
Slope shape as a consequence of erosional landform development plays a prominent role in soil erosion. Clarifying the distribution of soil erosion and deposition patterns on different shaped slopes is crucial for soil erosion control.

Adsorption‐Engineered Hydrocarbon Ionomers for Durable Proton‐Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Hydrocarbon ionomers suffer from oxidation‐driven interfacial degradation in PEM fuel cell cathodes, leading to catalyst instability. Here, adsorption‐engineered poly(fluorene) ionomers decouple interfacial anchoring from oxidative degradation, enabling strong catalyst–ionomer interactions while resisting electrochemical oxidation.

Humic Acid-Derived Porous Carbon as Peroxymonosulfate Activator for Phenol Removal

open access: yesMolecules
To enable the efficient and environmentally benign treatment of phenol-containing wastewater, a nitrogen-doped porous carbon material (denoted as 900-CN) was synthesized via high-temperature annealing of a composite composed of humic acid (HA) and g-C3N4.
