Care through cultivation: Indigenous Swidden agriculture as forest care
Abstract This paper argues that the agricultural practices of Bunong swidden cultivators in northeastern Cambodia constitute relational care for forests that is fundamentally misunderstood, misrecognized, and marginalized by dominant state policies, conservation, and development paradigms. Bringing together care theory, long‐term ethnographic research,

Nature‐based solutions for protected area governance: A systematic review
Abstract Nature‐based solutions (NBSs) have been introduced as an effective approach for climate change resilience and a set of actions to conserve, restore and sustainably manage natural or modified ecosystems, while simultaneously providing benefits to human well‐being and biodiversity.

Botanic and heritage gardens as living laboratories in the age of the polycrisis
Societal Impact Statement Cities face intertwined crises of climate, biodiversity loss and social disconnection. We show how botanic and heritage gardens can help address these challenges as living laboratories to generate place‐based evidence and public engagement.

Evergreen broadleaved forests (EBLFs) represent an iconic vegetation type in subtropical montane East Asia, but they are experiencing intensifying anthropogenic pressure and increasing habitat fragmentation. Here, using a dominant and widespread tree species characteristic of East Asian EBLFs, we examine its phylogeographic history and evaluate what it

Niche‐tracking as a collecting method: Habitat‐targeted search strategies for taxon‐focused botany
Biodiversity science depends on more than collecting plants—it depends on how we search for them. Although GPS and digital maps have transformed fieldwork, they can also encourage repeated visits to the same easy‐to‐access sites, leaving other habitats and populations unknown to science.

Evolution of photoperiod insensitivity drove the westward expansion of broomcorn millet
This research highlights how ancient farming communities adapted crops to challenging environments, enabling the spread of agriculture across Eurasia. By demonstrating that broomcorn millet evolved reduced sensitivity to day‐length, the study explains how this crop could support food production in regions with short growing seasons and long summer days.

Megadiverse genera represent the highest concentration of plant diversity, but these plants are also located primarily in countries in the Global South where huge gaps in botanical knowledge remain. This study summarized two centuries of Begonia collection records in the Philippines to show how historical events coincide with collection and taxonomic ...
