OPTIMAL LAND CONVERSION AND GROWTH WITH UNCERTAIN BIODIVERSITY COSTS [PDF]

open access: yes
An important characteristic defining the threat of environmental crises is the uncertainty about their consequences for future welfare. Random processes governing ecosystem dynamics and adaptation to anthropogenic change are important sources of ...

IDENTIFICATION OF RELEVANT TIME-SCALES IN NONEQUILIBRIUM COMMUNITY DYNAMICS - CONCLUSIONS FROM PHYTOPLANKTON SURVEYS [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
This paper is a reflection on J.B. Wilson's (1990) publication which presents an attempt to understand the development of terrestrial plant communities of New Zealand against twelve different explanations of Hutchinson's Paradox.

A Soft Matrix Microenvironment Promotes Laterally Spreading Tumors via Oxidative Phosphorylation‐Dependent Cell Adhesion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Laterally spreading tumors (LSTs) are precancerous colorectal lesions characterized by a flat morphology. This study reveals a mechanochemical pathway through which a soft matrix microenvironment diminishes spatial constraints in intestinal adenomas. This process promotes deficiencies in tight junction proteins, mediated by the mechanoreceptor ADORA2B ...

Discrimination of unique biological communities in the Mississippi lignite belt [PDF]

open access: yes
Small scale hardcopy LANDSAT prints were manually interpreted and color infrared aerial photography was obtained in an effort to identify and map large contiguous areas of old growth hardwood stands within Mississippi's lignite belt which do not exhibit ...

Tracking of [14C]Polystyrene Nanoplastics in Pregnant Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates [14C]polystyrene nanoplastic ([14C]PS) translocation in late‐stage pregnant mice after intranasal (0.5 mg of [14C]PS on GD12, GD14, and GD16, n = 6) and intravenous administration (1.5 mg of [14C]PS on GD16, n = 6). 14C‐radiolabel allows quantitative tracking of unmodified polystyrene nanoplastics.
