Unraveling the Complexity of the Ne/Nc Ratio for Conservation of Large and Widespread Pelagic Fish Species: Current Status and Challenges

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications
Estimating and understanding the ratio between effective population size (Ne) and census population size (Nc) are pivotal in the conservation of large marine pelagic fish species, including bony fish such as tunas and cartilaginous fish such as sharks ...

Operando X‐Ray Absorption Spectroscopy Reveals Dynamic Interfacial Metal–Metal Coordination Governing CO2 Reduction Selectivity in PdAg Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Operando X‐ray absorption spectroscopy uncovers dynamic Ag–Pd coordination in PdxAg1−x electrocatalysts during CO2 reduction. Partial oxidation of Ag and composition‐dependent metal–metal bonding synergistically regulate intermediate binding, enabling ∼91% CO selectivity.

Genetic bases of tomatо marker-assisted selection in Belarus

open access: yesThe EuroBiotech Journal, 2018
To develop tomato hybrids and varieties with a high fruit quality, we gradually solved the following tasks: development of DNA-marking methods for long shelf life genes; the genes modifying the biosynthesis of carotenoids and their composition; testing ...

How might epigenetics contribute to ecological speciation? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Speciation research has seen a renewed interest in ecological speciation, which emphasises divergent ecological selection leading to the evolution of reproductive isolation.

Soft Robotic Snake with Tunable Undulatory Gait for Efficient Underwater Locomotion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study designs an underwater soft snake robot using 3D‐printed soft actuators, controlled by specific signals to generate sinusoidal undulation. Results show a positive correlation between speed and swing amplitude, with optimal performance at 2/3π phase offset, PLA tail, 1.2 voltage growth rate, and 6s undulation period achieving a maximum speed ...

Evaluating the contribution of historical and contemporary temperature to the oospore production of self‐fertile Phytophthora infestans

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications
Reproductive systems play an important role in the ecological function of species, but little is known about how climate change, such as global warming, may affect the reproductive systems of microbes.

Analysis of public RNA-seq data in studies of flax fiber biogenesis

open access: yesThe EuroBiotech Journal, 2017
In this work we used publicly available raw RNA-seq data to elucidate mechanisms of flax fiber biogenesis by measuring expression of cell-wall related genes (cellulose synthase, cellulose synthase-like and chitinase-like genes) in stem of flax (Linum ...
