Synergism between Ecologic and Immunologic Control Mechanisms of Intestinal Flora
Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1974A hypothesis that postulates that local antibacterial immunity may act synergistically with bacterial antagonism in controlling bacterial populations in the intestine was studied. In germ-free mice monoassociated with Vibrio cholerae, bacterial counts were in the order of 109-1010 bacteria per cecum. If mice had been vaccinated with V.

Regulation of the Prevalence and Intensity of Schistosomiasis in Man: Immunology or Ecology?
Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1973The belief that immunity (resistance to reinfection) is a major factor controlling the prevalence and intensity of schistosomiasis in man is a deepseated one. It seems impossible to most observers that subjects in endemic areas who are exposed to infested waters are not constantly reinfected.

Understanding parasite ecology and evolution in the light of immunology
Trends in Ecology & Evolution, 2011The study of the ecology and evolution of parasites has grown in popularity over the past few decades, with an increasing number of scientific articles, popular science books and even TV shows dedicated to the subject. This new interest has also led to an expansion of the parasitology textbook options, from classic texts full of taxonomic and life ...

Expanding Immunology: defensive versus ecological perspectives
Perspectives in Biology and Medicine, 2008the few serious efforts to understand the scienceof immunology theoretically by employing both scientific and philosoph-ical critiques.Elling Ulvestad expertly summarizes diverse and extensive immu-nological science and then offers an ecologically inspired critique, which em-ploys classical philosophical approaches as well as contemporary philosophy ...

[Clinical-immunological and ecological research in diabetic retinopathy].
Vestnik oftalmologii, 2004Two hundred and ninety-six patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) were examined: conservative therapy and laser coagulation of the retina were applied in 120 and 176 of them, respectively. The ecological situation in the residence region and its impact on the morbidity and immune status of DR patients were analyzed.

[Immunological mechanisms of the formation of ecologically-induced pathology].
Vestnik Rossiiskoi akademii meditsinskikh nauk, 1994The paper provides the results of examining about 3,000 industrial workers exposed to various xenobiotics. Various phases of immune responses were noted in 40-60% of persons with nonspecific chronic pulmonary, gastrointestinal, gynecological diseases at remission.
