Ecological indicators – Schrödinger Ratio
2008This article is a scientific overview of the Schrödinger ratio as a basic thermodynamic indicator, proposed by Howard Odum, inspired by the concept of Schrödinger that maintenance of a low-entropy structure depends on continuous inflow of low-entropy energy (or exergy inflow) and on exportation of high entropy.

Phytogeographical and Ecological Indicators
2013The distribution of plants in the terrestrial ecosystem follows general rules which depend, in a direct or indirect way, on the geographical position of the area being considered. This chapter presents data regarding the chorotypes (from which information is obtained on the history of the floras and evolution), the life forms (which are correlated with

Ecological indicator organisms for environmental protection policy
Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 1983Environmental protection policy strives to maintain an environment favourable to human health, agriculture, and the preservation of natural heritage. Infringements upon the environment have been either by sudden deliberate action of man (construction, land reclamation, dams, etc.) or by gradual, insipid stress of chemical and physical agents (chemical ...

Over five decades ago, Clements1 2 reviewed the literature dealing with the use of plant indicators in ecology. The result was a volume of nearly 400 pages, with about 450 references. In this definitive work, he stated: “Every plant is a measure of the conditions under which it grows ... an index of soil and climate ...

Generalized Ecosystem Indices: Ecological Scaling and Ecological Risk
2006The way of multidimensional ecological scaling is developed. Within the framework of this procedure the ecological monitoring multidimensional data are converted into Ecosystem Index (EI). (This may be considered as a model of “ecological thermometer”).
