Want to model a species niche? A step-by-step guideline on correlative ecological niche modelling
The use of correlative ecological niche models has highly increased in the last decade. Despite all literature and textbooks in this field, few practical guidelines exist on the correct application of these techniques. We present here a step-by-step guideline explaining best practices for calculating correlative ecological niche models considering ...

Pharmaceutical diversity acts as an independent driver of antibiotic resistance in soil invertebrates. While bulk soil remains unaffected, the collembolan gut microbiome exhibits significant resistance gene enrichment under complex chemical exposure and diurnal warming.

One of the central research questions in ecology and biogeography revolves around understanding the spatial distribution patterns of organisms, the factors influencing species abundance, and why in certain areas there are more species or individuals than in others.

When a master transcription factor (TF) is lost, bacteria can rapidly rewire gene regulatory networks by co‐opting related regulators. Using experimental evolution in Pseudomonas fluorescens, we show that TF promiscuity (low‐level, non‐cognate binding) provides the raw material for rewiring. Successful co‐option follows a predictable hierarchy governed

Marine bioinvasions are one of the main threats to biodiversity. According to assumptions based on ecological niche models, the conservatism and equilibrium of species with the environment are vital to understanding the bioinvasion process. However, these

This study elucidates that β‐elemene promotes cellular uptake of L. gasseri‐derived lactate by enhancing the membrane translocation of MCT1 in a CD147‐dependent manner. Intracellular lactate, through the lactylation of RBBP4 at the K26 site, recruits EP300 to the promoter regions of downstream genes (POLD1/POLD3), catalyzing H3K27ac modification.

Mechanistic and Correlative Models of Ecological Niches
Abstract The suite of factors that drives where and under what conditions a species occurs has become the focus of intense research interest. Three general categories of methods have emerged by which researchers address questions in this area: mechanistic models of species’ requirements in terms of environmental conditions that are ...

Adult Sex Ratio as a Demographic Feedback Linking Mating Systems, Parental Care, and Evolution
Breeding systems are some of the most diverse social behavior, and our team is investigation the evolutionary causes of this diversity. This review summarises our research carried out at the University of Bath. We argue that demographic components of wild populations, especially the adult sex ratio, plays a key role driving breeding system variation ...

Coexistence in fire-prone Mediterranean-type shrublands has been explored in the past using both neutral and niche-based models. However, distinct differences between plant functional types (PFTs), such as fire-killed vs resprouting responses to fire ...

Predicting Distribution of Aedes Aegypti and Culex Pipiens Complex, Potential Vectors of Rift Valley Fever Virus in Relation to Disease Epidemics in East Africa. [PDF]
The East African region has experienced several Rift Valley fever (RVF) outbreaks since the 1930s. The objective of this study was to identify distributions of potential disease vectors in relation to disease epidemics.
