Alien ornamental plant species cultivated in Taizhou, southeastern China, may experience greater range expansions than native species under future climates

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation, 2023
Ornamental horticulture constitutes a major pathway of alien plant species introductions into different biogeographic regions globally. Studies increasingly suggest that climate change may favour invasive spread of many ornamental species, although the ...

Metabolic flexibility as a major predictor of spatial distribution in microbial communities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A better understand the ecology of microbes and their role in the global ecosystem could be achieved if traditional ecological theories can be applied to microbes. In ecology organisms are defined as specialists or generalists according to the breadth of

Melanin's Role in Balancing Mechanical Strength and Reproductive Output in Environmentally Stressed Fungal Spores

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Melanin content directly controls fungal spore mechanical properties, with pigmented spores achieving rupture forces two orders of magnitude higher than hyaline spores. Environmental stress drives this quantity‐quality tradeoff; stressed species invest energy in melanin‐reinforced, mechanically superior thick‐walled, super‐hydrophobic spores, while ...

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Comparative analysis of remotely-sensed data products via ecological niche modeling of avian influenza case occurrences in Middle Eastern poultry

open access: yesInternational Journal of Health Geographics, 2011
Background Ecological niche modeling integrates known sites of occurrence of species or phenomena with data on environmental variation across landscapes to infer environmental spaces potentially inhabited (i.e., the ecological niche) to generate ...

Ecological niche differentiation between Acanthodactylus micropholis and A. khamirensis (Sauria: Lacertidae) in southern Iran [PDF]

open access: yesZoologia (Curitiba), 2019
Acanthodactylus micropholis Heidari, Rastegar-Pouyani, Rastegar-Pouyani & Rajabizadeh, 2013 and A. khamirensis Blanford, 1874 are genetically and morphologically distinct, but their ecological differentiation has not previously been evaluated ...

Preliminary Analysis of the Ecology and Geography of the Asian Nuthatches (Aves: Sittidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We explored distributions of Asian nuthatch species in ecological and geographic space using ecological niche modeling based on occurrence data associated with specimens and observations. Nuthatches represent a well-defined clade occurring throughout the

Dental Microwear Texture Analysis on Radular Teeth

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
3D microwear textures reveal how gastropod radular teeth respond to controlled abrasive contact. Distinct surface signatures distinguish regular abrasion from fracture‐dominated material removal, showing how mineralized coatings, fibrous cores, and substrate properties jointly shape wear and failure in a biological scraping interface.
