ECOLOGY AND VIOLENCE: THE ENVIRONMENTAL DIMENSIONS OF WAR [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Research reported by Thomas Homer-Dixon characterizes five social effects that can significantly increase the likelihood of violence in the emerging world, effects that are far deeper than can be controlled by security forces: (1) constrained ...

Micropillar‐Engineered Hybrid Adhesive Patch for Surface‐Conformable and Directional Adhesion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work presents a surface‐conformable hybrid adhesive integrating height‐optimized hexagonal micropillars with open‐rectangular cuts. The micropillars enhance rough‐surface contact and microscale crack arrest, while the cuts guide and reverse interfacial cracks for strong and directional adhesion. The multiscale architecture achieves robust pull‐off

Land Ecological Security Evaluation of Guangzhou, China [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2014
As the land ecosystem provides the necessary basic material resources for human development, land ecological security (LES) plays an increasingly important role in sustainable development. Given the degradation of land ecological security under rapid urbanization and the urgent LES requirements of urban populations, a comprehensive evaluation method ...

Dual‐Functional Ingestible Passive Capsules for High‐Throughput Intestinal Sampling with Sealed Containment and Targeted Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
To address challenges in high‐throughput intestinal sampling with sealed containment and target drug delivery, we developed a dual‐functional ingestible passive capsule with a dual‐triggered control system based on pH‐response and mechanical actuation.

Effect of Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on Oxidative Stress and Apoptosis in Immune Tissues from Schizothorax prenanti

open access: yesAnimals
Schizothorax prenanti is an economically important cold-water fish in China. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) can induce an immune response in S. prenanti; however, little is known about the effects of LPS on oxidative stress (OS) and apoptosis in S.

Estimating the Growing Stem Volume of the Planted Forest Using the General Linear Model and Time Series Quad-Polarimetric SAR Images

open access: yesSensors, 2020
Increasing the area of planted forests is rather important for compensation the loss of natural forests and slowing down the global warming. Forest growing stem volume (GSV) is a key indicator for monitoring and evaluating the quality of planted forest ...
