Water Hyacinth Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms-Laubach Dynamics and Succession in the Nyanza Gulf of Lake Victoria (East Africa): Implications for Water Quality and Biodiversity Conservation

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2012
This study, conducted in Nyanza Gulf of Lake Victoria, assessed ecological succession and dynamic status of water hyacinth. Results show that water hyacinth is the genesis of macrophyte succession.

Accelerated Kinetics of Desolvation and Redox Transformation Enabled by MOF Sieving for High‐Loading Mg‐S Battery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A strategy of sieving catalysis based on the MIL‐101(Cr) with multistage pore structure and Lewis acid sites has been proposed as the catalyst to accelerate the kinetics of desolvation and redox conversion of sulfur species, achieving high performance Mg‐S batteries.

A comprehensive framework for vegetation succession

open access: yesEcosphere
Succession is defined as a directional change in species populations, the community, and the ecosystem at a site following a disturbance. Succession is a fundamental concept in ecology as it links different disciplines.

Ecological Succession Pattern of Fungal Community in Soil along a Retreating Glacier

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
Accelerated by global climate changing, retreating glaciers leave behind soil chronosequences of primary succession. Current knowledge of primary succession is mainly from studies of vegetation dynamics, whereas information about belowground microbes ...

A Bio‐Inspired Perspective on Materials Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective discusses natural materials as inspiration for sustainable engineering designs and the processing of materials. First, circularity, longevity, parsimony, and activity are presented as essential material paradigms. The perspective then uses many examples of natural and technical materials to introduce principles such as oligo ...

Ecological Succession Model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2003
We introduce a new interacting particle system intended to model an example of ecological succession involving two species: the bracken and the european beech. The objective is to exhibit phase transitions by proving that there exist three possible evolutions of the system to distinct ecological balances.
